Assumptions/Anticipated problems -Students know from previous lessons what human rights are. -Students have been working with children’s rights and started talking about women’s rights in other historical periods. -Students may know Emma Watson (at least from her role in Harry Potter films). Just in case, I will have a picture of the Harry Potter film. -Some students may know her role as a women’s rights activist. -Students tend to arrive late, so I have to be flexible with the pace of the tasks. DIDACTICS II - Prof.: María Erico Soledad Piantanida PROCEDURE Stage Sequence of activities and/or tasks Aims Warm-up T-S 8´ Stick a picture of “Emma Watson” in the middle of the board, ask students if they know who she is. Try to elicit that she is the lead actress in Harry Potter and ask if they know of any other activities she might be involved in. If they cannot guess, help them by naming 3 possibilities. Put 3 numbers related to her life around the picture and give the students some printed facts related to Emma’s life. Students have to guess what the numbers are about and match them with the corresponding data. Then highlight the number "2014" and tell them that it was the year of Emma’s speech at the United Nations and mention her role as an activist for gender equality. Explain that you are going to focus the lesson on her activist activity. To get students involved by asking for their ideas and prepared them for the activities which will follow Activity/Task 1 T-S S-S 8’ Pre-watching activity (annex 1) Tell students that they will watch a part of Emma Watson US Nations’ speech, but before doing that you will be checking some vocabulary to be prepared. Teacher hands in worksheet 1 in which students will find two columns, one with some words and the other one with some definitions. Students will be asked to match the words in column 1 with their corresponding definitions in column 2. To help students understand some words beforehand so that they feel more confident when watching the video which will follows. DIDACTICS II - Prof.: María Erico Soledad Piantanida Activity/Task 2 T-S S-S 10´ While watching activity - Cooperative task (annex 2) Divide the class into pairs and share with them a video fragment (PART 1) of Emma Watson, 2014 US Nations’ speech* in which she talks about gender equality. Hand in worksheet 2 and ask them to watch the speech and try to answer the questions. Check it as a whole class *Video link Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F80nmVa6Mo For this task, they will be watching PART 1 of the video. To expose students to real material about the topic, making it more meaningful so as to get their full attention. To promote collaborative work and to make students look for specific information. Activity/Task 3 T-S S-S 10´ Ask students to watch PART 2* of the video and make a list of the rights Emma Watson believes women should have. Then, ask them to think about one more right they consider women should have in order to get gender equality and add it to the list. Closure T-S 5´ Tell students to enter the link: Menti.com and give them the code. Then, ask them to enter 3 aspects of the speech which have called their attention. Mentimeter will create a word map with everyone’s contributions. Once they have finished, a screen capture will be done and uploaded to CREA for them to print it and paste it in their notebooks. To recycle key information about the topic they have been working on, in a meaningful manner.
