Introduction
Cost of fuel in power sector forms major part of the total generation cost of
electricity. With the continued escalation in the price of coal and petroleum fuels,
the generation cost has been going upward.
The need of the hour is to reduce the fuel input cost as well as the emission levels
by increasing the operational efficiency.
“THERMACT”, a multifunctional solid Combustion catalyst, developed by IIT,
Bombay, is a product which meets the above needs.
What is THERMACT ?
THERMACT, is a multifunctional combustion catalyst, specially developed &
formulated to improve the combustion of coal which is used as a primary fuel in
all types of boilers.
It also reduces the problems related to combustion and its associated costs of
energy generation.
Unique catalysts in THERMACT help in optimising the combustion of coal and
thereby reducing boilers operational problems like Slag, Clinker & Emissions
etc.

Unburnt carbon acts as binder to the
fused ash which results into formation of
Slag & Clinker. THERMACT helps in
combustion of these unburnt carbon and
makes the Slag, Clinker porous / soft
and falls down gradually. In presence of
THERMACT, the AFT of ash increases.
Hence, there is reduction in ash fusion
which leads to prevention of forth slag &
clinker formation.
Usage of THERMACT, therefore, helps
in longer plant availability.
