Comparative Movie Report We will be watching two movies in class. After the first one, you will write a short movie review. Then, after you have watched the second movie, you will write a review comparing the two movies. Both have a similar theme, but they are far from the same. As you watch the movies, use this worksheet to take notes. You will need the notes when you write your comparative movie report in class. The better your notes are, the more you will have to work with when you write your report. Notes on Movie 1 – The Race Pay attention to the following: The setting of the film – The main characters – how many are there, who are they, do they develop throughout the movie? If so, how? The plot – what is the main issue that must be solved/overcome in each movie? How are these different/similar from each other? Focus less on the story line and more on the differences and similarities between them. The soundtrack of the movies – describe them, how they add or detract from your viewing experience, and if they support the theme of the movie or not The scenery/stage props/ theatrical extras – Is the scenery convincing, does it feel like it’s real or fake? Is it invested in? Are there special effects or other extras that add to the viewing experience? The theme of the movies - What is the main topic of the movie? Did the movie teach any sort of lesson? Does it have a moral? The actors/actresses – did they do a good job? Who did and who didn’t? What made them good actors/actresses in your opinion? What audience demographics for this movie? - What group of people would like this movie? Who would you recommend it to? Who would you not recommend it to? What’s the MPAA rating of the movie (G, PG, PG13, R etc). What is your final word on the movie? Give it a score on whatever rating system you chose to use (not just thumbs up or thumbs down) and explain why you rated it as you did.
