The Cell Cells Prokaryotic Cells • These are unicellular organisms that do no contain a nucleus or membrane enclosed organelles • Mainly contain Genetic Material (DNA) Eukaryotic Cells Eukaryotic Cells • These are plant and animal cells that contain a nucleus and membrane enclosed organelles. Organelles • Nucleus • Contains DNA(Deoxyribonucleic acid) which controls what the cell does and how it does it and its found inside the nuclear membrane • Contains the Nucleolus which produces ribosomes Ribosomes • Produces or synthesises protein • Able to flow around cytoplasm or attach to the endoplasmic reticulum Lysosome • Breaks down cellular debry Mitochondrian • ‘’Power house” or “Engine” of the animal and plant cell • During cellular respiration, this makes ATP molecules which provides the energy for all the cells activities. Endoplasmic Reticulum • Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (rER) • Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (sER) • Membrane enclosed passage for transporting organelles like protein which is synthesised by ribosomes • They transport these materials in small bubble looking balls called Vesicles to the Golgi Apparatus Golgi Apparatus • Proteins enter the golgi body • Customized and formed into shapes that the cell is able to use or adds other materials onto them like lipids or carbohydrates Animal Cell Plant Cell
