Dear students you donot need to submit the assignment, you will have
assignment based quiz from this assignment in your respective classes
according to your timetable on campus. The due date will 11th
October2021.
Q.1. Upon graduation a joyful physics student throws her cap straight upward with
an initial velocity of 14.7 m/s. Given that its acceleration has a magnitude of 9.81
m/s2 and is directed downward. Ignore air drag (a).How long does it take for the
cap to reach its highest point.(b).What is the distance to the highest point?
(c)Assuming the cap is caught at the same height from which it was released, what
is the total time the cap is in flight?
Q.2.A shelter Island ferry boat moves with a cosntant velocity vox =8 m/sfor 60 sec.It
then shuts off its engines and coasts. Its coasting velocity is given by vx = vox t21 /t2,
where t1= 60 s.What is the displacement of the boat for the interval 0<t<∞?

Q.3. A physics student on Planet Exidor throws a ball, it follows the parabolic
trajectory as shown below. The ball’s position is shown at 1 sec intervals until
t=3s.At t=1s, the ball’s velocity is v= (2𝑖 ^ +2𝑗 ^ )m/s.(a). Determine the ball’s
velocity at t= 0s, 2s, 3s. (b). what is the value of g on planet Exidor?(c) .What was
the ball’s launch angle?
Q.4. A robot lands on Mars. Its x and y coordinates are given by equations:
x(t) = 2m –(0.25m/s2 )t2
y(t)= (1.0 m/s)t +(0.025m/s3)
(a).What is the position and distance from landing at t=2 seconds?(b)What is the
displacement and average velocity during the interval from t=0 s to t= 2?(c).Derive
a general expression for its instantaneous velocity vector and find its instantaneous
velocity in its component form as well as in terms of its magnitude.
Q.5. A projectile is launched from point O at an angle of 22° with an initial
velocity of 15 m/s up an incline plane that makes an angle of 10° with the
horizontal. The projectile hits the incline plane at point M.
a) Find the time it takes for the projectile to hit the incline plane.
b)Find the distance OM.

Q.6. A projectile is to be launched at an angle of 30° so that it falls beyond the
pond of length 20 meters as shown in the figure. What is the range of values of the
initial velocity so that the projectile falls between points M and N?
Q.7. The trajectory of a projectile launched from ground is given by the equation
y = -0.025 x2 + 0.5 x, where x and y are the coordinate of the projectile on a
rectangular system of axes. Find the initial velocity and the angle at which the
projectile is launched.
Q.8.A ball is thrown with speed v0 at angle θ with respect to the horizontal. It is
thrown from a point that is a distance l from the base of a cliff that has a height
also equal to l. What should θ and v0 be so that the ball hits the corner of the cliff
moving horizontally as shown in the figure.
Q.9.A boat heading due north crosses a wide river with a speed of 10 km/h relative
to the water . The water in the river has a uniform speed of 5 km/h due east relative
to the earth. Determine the velocity of the boat relative to an observer standing on
either bank.

accelration, (b) the speed of the particle and (c) its tangential accleration.
