ASSIGNMENT GUIDE 1
Introduction to Management
(Week 2: March 8 – 12, 2021)
Task
You have been introduced to the concept of management. You have learned its basics
such as its primary functions, the importance, types and roles of managers, and the value
of studying it as a discipline, an activity or process, and a job/profession.
This assignment requires you to write about the real-life experiences of a manager in terms
of the lessons mentioned above. This will provide you with a second-hand appreciation
of managing and managers.
Process
1) Look for somebody who occupies a managerial position in an organization
(private or public) to interview. You will have to get to know about his/her
managerial experiences by asking appropriate guide questions.
2) Prepare guide questions for the interview. They must be able to provide you with
the information you need to fill out the following matrix:

Schedule the interview with your person of choice. Your interview may be faceto-face, phone or online, whichever is most convenient to you. Be guided by the
questions you prepared. You may audio record your interview for ease and later
transcription which must be in English. Observe proper interview etiquette.
4) Online via VLE: Write down your interview transcriptions based on the required
format in the matrix shown above. Copy-paste it in a Word file, fill out and convert
to PDF before uploading it for submission in the course site (VLE).
Offline (no access to VLE): Write down your interview transcriptions based on the
required format in the matrix shown above. Copy-paste in a Word file, fill out and
submit either through email (soft copy), FB messenger (soft copy. scanned copy or
photo) or courier (hard copy) – whichever is possible. If a computer is not
available, handwritten work on yellow papers will be welcome.
Due Date: You are expected to have submitted this assignment on or before March 13,
2021 at 11:59 PM.
If you will be sending your essays via courier, make sure that these will be received on or
before the last day of Week 1(March 13) or within the week after Week 1.
