Introduction to Physics Handout Physics Grade 9 Research the Following Key words: Phenomena Theories Experiments Scientists Models Fundamental Physicist What is Physics? Physics is the most basic of all the sciences. It is concerned with the study of systems, forces and energy, the composition of matter and other unforeseen phenomena. It also involves the laws and principles which govern man’s interaction with these systems and how he manipulates the system to improve and maintain mankind’s way of life. In addition, it involves theories which seek to explain the physical tendencies of the universe. These theories can change overtime as scientists, through experiments under particular conditions, rewrite past beliefs with proven facts (a close agreement by scientists who have done adequate and ongoing research on a particular topic. Models are used to represent the actual realities. They are used as hands-on material to the extent to which we are unable to pursue on a day-today basis. Physics is about the nature of basic things – atoms (and their components), motion forces, energy, and matter. As a fundamental scientific discipline, all improvements in technology can be traced either directly or indirectly to Physics. In essence, all other scientific disciplines spring from this scientific discipline. WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING PERSONS IS A PHYSICIST?
