She was scouted at the tender age of 16 and she hasn’t looked back since. Agnes Vanora is a full time model at only 19 because that’s what she wants to do with her life. Standing at 175 cm, this lanky and lithe lass from Penang had earned the nickname “Plasma TV” in school. While she may have been laughed at then, it turns out that her body and exotic looks was the right fit for modeling world. “It’s my calling,” said Agnes about becoming a model. “This is what I’m supposed to do. I knew what I wanted to be when I was 13 years old after I watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on TV”. As far how she got the name “Plasma TV”, she said: “I was thin and tall in school – which was an all-girls school – and because of that I got call that name.” She was naturally confused and hurt to be singled out like that but little did she know that her height and slim looks would work to her advantage. “I was spotted by a modelling agent when I was 16. I was at a shopping mall when I was scouted. I started modeling as soon as I finished school when I was 17,” said Agnes. Besides being tall and slim, Agnes, who is of mixed Chinese and Portuguese parentage, also get asked about her race. “People come up to me and ask whether I’m Malay or Chinese. I’m not bothered by it and I usually tell them I’m Chinese. Although I can’t converse in the language and can only understand it,” she laughed. “I’m learning to speak Cantonese now though.” Agnes however, is clearly comfortable with the way she is and the way she looks now. Meeting her for the first time for the automaniac.my photo shoot, she came across as rather quiet and serious. “People tend to think I’m very quiet when they meet me for the first time and I am, but once I get know them and I’m comfortable enough with them, then I get really chatty and I can’t stop,” she admitted. Agnes, who is now based in Kuala Lumpur leads a busy life as she works an average of six days a week. “I’m also a part time project coordinator for fashion shows,” said Agnes. And she also takes the time to practice her modeling skills. “I’m always practising my catwalks, posture, face control and I get a lot od advice from people in the industry who continue to help me improve myself.” When she is not working, she likes to spend time at home cleaning among other things. “I’m a clean freak! I have phobia of germs so I mop the entire house at least once a day,” said Agnes. Besides keeping things clean, she also has a thing for interior decoration and designing clothes for women. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ( Words) (90 Marks) Question 2 (Paraphrase) Paraphrase these sentences. 1.
