Freak the Mighty Project Options Name: ____________________________ LA - ___ You must earn a total of 50 POINTS. Bonus points will NOT be awarded for going over 50, but feel free to do so. These projects are due on D ECEMBER 20th! Most of these projects can be worked on while you are reading the novel. EACH PROJECT IS TO BE COMPLETED ON ITS OWN PIECE OF PAPER. Title each paper. If you are confused on the format, see me, and I will explain what is expected. Knowledge Comprehension Application 30 Points Each 40 Points Each CHARACTER SKETCH: Choose one character from the book. Sketch a picture of them. You must include 6+ descriptor labels of that character. Think physical features as well as characteristics, personality, and emotional qualities. CLIMAX: This book has two climaxes - one that revolves around Max and one that focuses on Kevin. Retell each climax in your own words (2+ sentences). Then explain how you felt as you read each climax (1+ sentence). ORATION: Choose a character Max or Kevin. If that character was a guest speaker at NRMS, what would he say to students? Would his message be inspirational or informative? Write his 2+ paragraph speech and make sure to focus on a theme. Use their personality. ENDING: Write an alternative ending to the story. Your ending must be 2+ paragraphs long, it must be told from Max’s point of view, and it must have 2 examples of dialogue. You can start from any event or chapter in the story or pick up where the story ended. You may need to read ahead to get this one done on time! CONFLICT: Focus on one character. List all of the problems that characters faces throughout the novel (you must have at least 4). Then explain how each problem is solved in the novel. Use a T-chart with problems on one side and resolutions on the other. THEME: Choose two themes from the book. Identify each theme, and explain the events that revealed the theme in the novel. Write 4+ sentences about each theme. RECOMMENDATION: Write a letter (2+ paragraphs) recommending this book to a friend. The first paragraph should be about the story WITHOUT giving away the climaxes or ending. The second paragraph should focus on why your friend would like the book. Use specific details. RESEARCH: Research Kevin’s syndrome. Make an infographic (information in a visual form) with at least 10 facts about Morquio Syndrome. Your poster must also include a title and sources. SETTING: What are the important locations in this novel? List 4 places from the story, and write a two sentence description of each place. Think details! CHARACTER POEM: Choose MAXWELL, KEVIN, or KENNY. Write the characters name vertically. Then write an acrostic poem where each letter begins a complete sentence about that character. CONNECTION: If this story reminded you of anything that has happened to you, you can complete this assignment. What event in your life did it make you think about? Why did you make that connection to the story? Answer both questions and explain in 6+ sentences. POINT OF VIEW: Rewrite one event in the story from a different point of view (Kevin, Gram, Grim, Kenny, Gwen). Choose an event that was important to the story.
