1. Zombies are attacking you from all directions. The initial speed of a zombie moving around is 5.0 x 10-1 m/s. When it sees/smells human blood it begins to accelerate at 2.5 x 10-1 m/s2 with no final velocity, one of the amazing facts about zombies, thankfully they have a limited range of sight and vision, usually because some of their brains are missing, of about 100m. A group of zombies spots you at 100m and begin to accelerate toward you. How many can you kill with your Glock 17 before they eventually overtake you? (assume you are an excellent shot, you can fire a magazine, you have 2, (15 shots each) in about 8 seconds, 3 seconds to switch magazines and it takes about 45 seconds to reload your magazine, and it only takes one head shot to kill a zombie) 2. Just before the zombies reach you, your friend drives into the whole pile of them in a very old pick up and you are able to escape in the nick of time. Your friend never actually slows down he traveled at a constant speed of 12 m/s as he picked you up. Unfortunately he was only able to maintain that speed for 30s and then starts to slow down at a constant rate of 2m/s2. How much distance will you have gotten between you and the zombies, before the old pickup truck finally stops? (Assume the zombies are so confused that they just stay where they are.) 3. As the truck dies out you see a tall building so you climb to the top of it, 8 stories phew you are tired. At the top of the building you notice a line of zombies about to enter the building from your calculations it looks about 30 meters long (who knew that zombies were so organized). Luckily there are two parachutes at the top of the building that you and your friend have already put on (the magic of physics). You want to jump when those zombies have just about gotten to the top of the building, but get the most amount of rest before you jump. (assume the zombies maintain their initial velocity in the first problem for the entire climb of the eight stories and their vertical speed is the same as their horizontal speed, and 1 story is about 5 meters) Also what will be the time you are in free fall if you don’t pull the parachute until the last two stories (one and two) before the ground? 4. You are driving on the freeway at 70mph in your legendary special Edition Boxster RS 60 with 303 HP can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds (that’s quite a feat) ... yet it can decelerate from 60-0 mph in 3.4 seconds! (that’s a greater feat). You see a fallen tree in the road(zombie trap?) 200 ft away. Your reaction speed is excellent and it only takes you 1/10th of a second to react? Given the deceleration of the Porsche will you be able to stop in time and not be eaten alive in your wrecked $80,000 Porsche?
