There are several stored procedures within a Dinerware database that allow data to be purged (or removed) from that database. The most common uses of purge functions are to remove sales, labor and transaction information that fall after or before a certain date. This can be useful for several reasons: training purposes; databases that reach the size limit of express versions of SQL; databases that push the limitations of existing hardware; or, in the unfortunate event the date/clock has been changed, and as a result business transactions have been recorded as conducted on a date in the future. Important: Please be aware once data has been purged from a database, it cannot under any circumstances be recovered. Use purge functions with discretion and always be sure to make a backup of the database prior to running a purge. Dinerware recommends databases be archived and not purged, so that data can be used for reporting purposes in perpetuity, without the need to restore a historical database backup. The built in archiving function automatically makes a backup of the current data, purges it and makes the backup available for reporting purposes. If running an SQL stored procedure is something an end user is unfamiliar with, that user should contact Dinerware or their authorized dealer prior to any attempt to modify the database using SQL commands. Please note that deleting from any tables in the database without simultaneously removing all references to that table/data can result in unrecoverable data.
