Individual Review Homework #5 (Unit 8)
Individual Review Homework #5: total points: 10 pts
Please use your notes and slides for this activity. You should first provide your own answers to the homework (using your own words). After the
homework submission deadline, you will be able to access the solution to the homework. Please use it to verify your answers. They are provided to
help you learn the material and study for the exam. Note, the answer provided does not necessarily contain all the relevant information. There are a
total of 9 homework and they will count for 15% of the final grade.
Below is a table that lists the different properties of the retina in the fovea and periphery. The goal of this activity is to help you
make connections between properties of the fovea and the periphery. You will do so by providing brief descriptions elaborating on a
property and how it relates to other properties within the fovea and the periphery.
We learned that one cone is connected to a midget bipolar cell, and that about 50 cells in the periphery send the information
to a diffuse bipolar cell. Based on these very different ways to send the information, try to explain why: (1) convergence is low or
high in the fovea and periphery, respectively; (2) receptive fields are small or large; (3) acuity is high or low; and (4) light sensitivity is
low or high.
