Thank you for downloading my Technology Quick Check set! I developed this set out
of concern that my students’ performance on state testing would not truly reflect
their level of academic achievement, but would instead be limited to their level of tech
“savviness”. I was not convinced that a half hour a week in the computer lab would be
sufficient preparation for typing a multi-paragraph essay or manipulating text within a
given question.
As a result of these concerns, my “Technology Quick CheckSet” was created! I
prepared 30 different tasks for students to work through to reinforce key
computer-type skills while practicing needed Language Arts skills all at the same time!
My comprehensive practice pack for the year includes the following:
*keyboarding (emphasis on capitalization, punctuation, quotations, numbers & symbols, etc.)
*formatting (changing sizes, fonts, text types, highlighting, alignment, underlining, etc. )
*creating numbered lists
*writing mechanics & story sequencing
*copy/pasting/deleting text
*inserting images
*restating questions
*constructed response practice
*utilizing available on-line tools (internet skill practice, spell check, etc.)
For my own classroom, I copy the 30 individual ½ sheet cards on bright colored tag
paper and laminate for durability. I then place one task in my daily morning rotation
each week, giving students this needed practice leading up to spring testing! (I have
left the card number spot blank intentionally, so cards may be numbered & used in an
order that best fits your students’ needs!) Using Google Drive makes it very easy for
me to monitor student progress as students share their completed tasks with me. If
you prefer, students can also easily print a copy of each completed task and turn in
