LOG ROLL
Procedure for getting in and out of bed that prevents
excessive bending, twisting, and straining of your back
Getting out of bed:
1. Bend your knee
The knee that is bent should be the
one opposite to the side you are
rolling onto
2. Roll onto your side
Grab onto the side of the bed or the
bedrail to help you roll onto your side
with your knee still bent
3. Push up from your arm and swing your legs down
Push your upper body up and swing your
legs off of the bed at the same time to
use momentum to help you move
Getting into bed: (the reverse process of getting out of bed)
1. Lower yourself to lie on your side and lift your legs up
Lower your upper body down and swing
your legs up onto the bed at the same
time to use momentum to help you move
2. Roll onto your back with your hips and knees together
You can turn your head to the direction
you are rolling to for assistance in rolling
