LOG ROLL Procedure for getting in and out of bed that prevents excessive bending, twisting, and straining of your back Getting out of bed: 1. Bend your knee The knee that is bent should be the one opposite to the side you are rolling onto 2. Roll onto your side Grab onto the side of the bed or the bedrail to help you roll onto your side with your knee still bent 3. Push up from your arm and swing your legs down Push your upper body up and swing your legs off of the bed at the same time to use momentum to help you move Getting into bed: (the reverse process of getting out of bed) 1. Lower yourself to lie on your side and lift your legs up Lower your upper body down and swing your legs up onto the bed at the same time to use momentum to help you move 2. Roll onto your back with your hips and knees together You can turn your head to the direction you are rolling to for assistance in rolling
