Market Analysis
From background research, the food barrier might be one of the most common issues that
migrants are facing. They like different foods because they come from different nations.
Some food that is considered to be delicious might not be delicious for them. And this
problem is especially severe for migrants because they are still trying to be involved in the
society which means they get even less information about food.
There are some current existing dish review apps that can help migrants see whether they
like it or not. Yelp is a website and mobile application that restaurants itselves or users
can write a review for food which can help other users detect whether the food is good or
not, and what is good about it.
However, it is still the same problem, in which migrants don't know if the dish fits their
taste or not. To solve this problem, I planned to provide some way to let migrants form
their own food review community, which can send them more useful and accurate reviews
according to different heritage backgrounds. This food review only for migrants can make
them involved in the society faster, even share their experience of having great food in
restaurants with the locals.
Concept - Exotic Gourmet
Exotic Gourmet is a dish review app especially designed for migrants, which contains
many functions that help the migrants find their favourite restaurants and dishes.
Migrants can type in their original nationality, so the system will filter the restaurant and
dishes, they can find the dishes that fits their taste more, and see the reviews from other
migrants from the same cultural background. Also, they can publish their own reviews, or
reply to the other reviews to make friends and help each other with their new life in an
unfamiliar country.
Compared to the current existing dish / restaurant review apps, Exotic Gourmet can
provide the migrants more accurate and valid results that they need. Trying local dishes is
one of the most important part of being involved in the new environment, and a big
challenge for the migrants, so this application can help them find the dishes most likely to
fits their taste.
