Alignment & Ascension – Fall 2020
09/03/2020 – now is the time to eradicate unwholesome behaviours from my life. I’ve come to be aware
of a vicious cycle fueled by regret, guilt and shame that has manifested within my life. I feel that this
cycle is derived from attachment to my identity and values – when I engage in actions that do not align
with my identity and values, I suffer. Thus, in an effort to be pragmatic, I wish to create an experiment of
sorts – one in which I fully align myself with my values for an extended period of time in order to
observe the levels of happiness and fulfillment that this lifestyle evokes. I’m also interested to see the
impact on my academic performance, physical well-being/energy levels, mental state and social life. The
centric values upon which this lifestyle will be established are health (in a holistic sense – physical,
mental, emotional, spiritual, social, financial, etc.), self-improvement/progression/growth,
achievement/productivity, and discipline/willpower. I must focus on following essential facets of my life:
academics, fitness/physique, elimination of “bad” habits (instant gratification behaviours – alcohol,
drugs, PMO, cigarettes, social media, unproductive screen-time, excessive caffeine, etc.), and cultivation
of “good” habits (behaviours that are conducive to the lifestyle I envision – regular/quality sleep,
meditation, reading, cold showers, exercise, etc.). Other important areas to consider include my
finances (saving, budgeting, investing), social life and relaxing/unwinding (hiking, going out in nature to
read, library/coffee shops for studying, etc.). I must ensure to always continue driving towards my goals:
