A fair test
A fair test is when you only change one thing at a time.
John wanted to see how far a ball would bounce when he dropped it. This is how he carried
out his experiment.
1. For his first experiment he held the ball above his head when he dropped it.
2. He repeated the experiment but this time he threw the ball up into the air before it
bounced on the ground.
3. For his third attempt John borrowed his friend’s ball and threw it against the wall to
see how far it would bounce back.
How fair was John’s test? Answer these questions.
1. Was this a fair way to find out how far a ball would bounce when it was dropped?
2. Make a list of all the things that John changed during his three
experiments(variables).
