Type of Speech THREE TYPES OF SPEECH ACCORDING TO PURPOSE • INFORMATIVE SPEECH • ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH • PERSUASIVE SPEECH INFORMATIVE SPEECH • this speech provides interesting and useful information to the audience. As the declaration "informative" implies, an informative speech "let somebody know" those in audience by presenting them reliable information on any subject matter. Therefore, the speaker is a trainer, and his or her point is to inform the audience regarding a topic. The topics may be an object, an event, an idea, or a course. a. Speeches About Objects • are about things that are tangible and recognized through sight, hearing, taste, or touch. Speeches about objects include those about people, places, animals, structures, etc. for example: • Why President Duterte became a drug addict killer? • What to look for when getting a latest computer system? • Does marijuana cure some illnesses? b. Speeches About Events • are about happenings or occurrences, both past and present. Possible speech topics include the following: • The origin of the holiday known as Halloween • What led to the Katipunan to defend our country? • The Primary Causes of World War II c. Speeches About Concepts • are about ideas, philosophies, hypotheses, arguments, etc, Informative speeches might address topics such as: > The Bible > Christmas in the Philippines > The resiliency of Filipino people d. Speeches About Processes • are about how something is made, how something is done, or how something work. Therefore, possible topics include: > How pearls develop in oysters > How to administer the final exam for the blind > How to organize a plot for a novel ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH • Its sole purpose is to have the audience enjoy the presentation. It is not to educate, inspire or inform but it is to make the audience smile, relax, enjoy and maybe even laugh their heads off. >Tell jokes, funny stories, scary stories and dramatize an anecdote. PERSUASIVE SPEECH • It works to convince people to change in some ways such as: the way they think, the way they do something, or to start doing something that they are not usually doing. Types of Persuasive Speech a. those that deal with questions of fact - Does President Duterte love to kill drug lords? b. those that deal with questions of value - Do people have the right to choose to die with dignity? c. those that deal with questions of policy. - Do parents need to pay school tuition fee?
