Persuasive Techniques
When and why are
they used?
To convince
someone to
change their
mind
To Show

perspective or
point of view
To help sell a

To encourage
an audience to
agree with a
specific opinion
Advertisements can range from ; magazines,
billboards, newspaper ads, Youtube ads
Persuasive
texts can
be:
Persuasive essay ; people arguing a point in written
form: For example, arguing that homework is bad /
arguing that mobile phones should be allowed in
class etc
**There is no right or wrong opinion in persuasive
writing as long as the language techniques (or
persuasive devices) are used.
When we use the language techniques our
audience is being convinced.
Repetition
• When words, pictures, colours or short
sentences are being used many times
- This helps our audience remember a sentence
or words that are related to a product better.
- Red= we think of coke
• A logo is a simple picture that represents the product

• Very simple design
• As soon as the audience sees it they know what
company it comes from
• Asking a question that everyone knows the answer to

• Everyone usually has the same answer in their head,

• You are an inventor and you have invented a shirt that is waterproof and stain proof.
• You must create an A4 sized pamphlet that advertises your
amazing product. There is nothing like it and you must use some
detailed description that tells the audience why they need your
shirt.
