Modelling the Atom: Create a timeline In groups of 4-5 you will need to create a timeline of the model of the atom. For each model you will need an A4 page profile of the model including: Who developed the model When was it developed A diagram of the model Explanation of its key features How the scientists came up with the model These will be arranged into a timeline of our understanding of the atom. The five profiles that need to be made are: John Dalton (Solid sphere or billiard ball model) J.J. Thomson (Plum pudding model) Ernest Rutherford (Nuclear model) Niels Bohr (Planetary model) Erwin Schrodinger (Electron cloud model) Example: Democritus 442BC Democritus was an ancient Greek Philosopher His model of the atom was that matter was made of invisible particles called atoms. These atoms were solid and had a uniform structure. His model was based on reasoning rather than science.
