Pass divider divides channel head into 2 sections
Condense outlet
steam inlet
Dry steam comes into the inlet section and after heat
exchange and phase change through out tube bundle
leaves the condense section in liquid state.
Central hole is provided on Pass divider
in order to pressure balance between steam inlet and
condense outlet section and also vent the air during
hydrostatic pressure test.
The point that shown as damaged area are the result of
introducing liquid water with steam into the reboiler.

Cold liquid stream which fill up shell compartment till over
flow from wear as hot liquid, is coming through the cold
liquid inlet at the bottom of shell side.
Lighter components related to their boiling point and
vapor pressure leave the shell side from over head vapor

TUBE BUNDLE
Steam is fluid that pass through the tube bundle in kettle type
reboilers.
There are 2 common reasons for tube failure in reboilers. Failure
due to corrosion, hot spot or hammering in result of bad
operation and failure due to bad maintenance during overhaul.

Tube failure will detect by hydro test after overhaul or observing
signs of failure during normal operation.
Observing shell liquid particles in steam condensate outlet
stream, increasing require steam flow, variable and hard to
control column profile are operational signs of reboiler tube
failure.

 Tube bundle should be submersed into process liquid before introducing steam to reboiler.
 Warmup valve must be switch on steam main valve immediately after dry steam observed from
steam header low points to prevent hammering.
 Desuperheater is provided for system in which a process liquid degradation is likely (EX. Amine
regeneration column). Since using desuperheater reduce ∆T between steam and process liquid,
condensate formation at condensate outlet of channel head is assured thus there is no concern
about passing live steam into the downstream in lock of piping pot.
 Piping pot provides a liquid seal prevent uncondensed vapor from blowing out of the reboiler in to
the condensate system that not only prevent hammering in condensate header but also by
increasing heat exchange time increases the use of steam latent heat and saves energy
consumption.
 Balancing line is using to equalize the ∆P between reboiler and piping pot (or steam condensate
surge drum) in order to facilitate flow from reboiler to piping pot (or steam condensate surge drum)
and also prevent backflow from piping pot (or steam condensate surge drum) in case of pressure
drop in inlet steam header.
