Tabor, Aira Mae J. 1BSA-7 Reaction Paper “The Social Dilemma: The Disadvantage of Social Media and Its Impact on Mental Health” The webinar entitled, “The Social Dilemma: The Disadvantage of Social Media and Its Impact on Mental Health” helped me become more aware on the disadvantages of social media and how it affects one person’s mental health. According to one of the speakers on this webinar, escalating of mental health problems may happen if there is an excessive use of gadgets and social media platforms. That in every minute we spent the social media it adds to our depression level. While watching, I suddenly realized that teenagers like me spend a lot of time on social media and maybe that’s the reason young people like me are more susceptible to peer pressure, low self-esteem and mental ill-health. I remember how I spent a lot of time on social media during this time of pandemic. Because of social media, I forgot to eat and sleep on time. My days were never productive. My routine wasn’t good for my physical health as well as my mental health. This webinar made me totally aware that too much use of social media can lead to depression, anxiety, sleep problems, eating concerns, and suicide risk. I admire the speakers of this webinar for making every audience became aware of the disadvantages of social media, especially its impact on our mental health. I highly appreciate webinars like this. Very informative and helpful at same time.
