 What is Affirmative and
Negative Sentence?
 An affirmative word, phrase,
or sentence expresses the validity or truth of a
basic assertion. An affirmative sentence is
simply a sentence which affirms. It makes its
statements in positive terms.
 Negative statements are the opposite of
positive statements and are necessary to
express an opposing idea. A negative is a
word or phrase that shows you reject or
disagree with something. We use negatives all
the time in regular conversation.

Negative: He is not more than four.
Affirmative: They have only two cars.
Negative: They have not more than two cars.
Affirmative: A child likes only sweets.
Negative: A child likes nothing but sweets.
Affirmative: Only the moon was visible.
Negative: Nothing but the moon was visible.

Affirmative: You must yield to your fate.
Negative: You can not but yield to your fate.
Affirmative: We must obey our parents.
Negative: We can not but obey our parents.
Affirmative: You must care them.
Negative: You can not help caring them.
RULE 03
 EVERY
STRUCTURE: There is no+ The word after ‘Every’+ but +
extension.
Affirmative: Everyone hates a terrorist.
Negative: There is no one but hates a
terrorist.
Affirmative: Everybody fears a lion.
Negative: There is no body but hates a liar.
Affirmative: Every mother loves her child.
Negative: There is no mother but loves her
child.
RULE 04
Both……and
Not only….but also
Affirmative: Both Raju and Sakib were good
friends.
Negative: Not only Raju but also Sakib were good
friends.
Affirmative: He took burger and pizza.
Negative: He took not only burger but also pizza.
Affirmative: Rana is both honest and faithful.
Negative: Rana is not only honest but also faithful.
RULE 05
 As soon as
Structure: No sooner had+ subject+ Main verb (past
participle) V3+ extension of 1st sentence+ than+ 2nd sentence.
Affirmative: As soon as he saw the tiger, he ran away.
Negative: No sooner had he seen the Tiger than he ran away.
Affirmative: No sooner had the boy saw the police, he ran away.
Negative: As soon as the boy seen the police than he ran away.
RULE 06
 Too……to
Structure: Subject+ replace (too) with (so)+ adjective/adverb+ that+ First subject again+ according
to tense (cannot/could not)+ প্রদত্ত to এর পররর অংশ বরে
Affirmative: He is too weak to walk.
Negative: He is so weak that he can not walk.
Affirmative: The sum was too difficult for me to work out.
Negative: The sum was so difficult for me that I could not work out.
RULE 07
 Superlative degree
Structure: No other + superlative এর পররর অংশ + verb + as + superlative degree এর positive form +
as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.
Affirmative: He is the best batsman in the team.
Negative: No other batsman in the team is as good as him.
Affirmative: You are the best boy in the class.
Negative: No other boy in the class is as good as you.
RULE 08
Affirmative word
 Affirmative word will be change into (not)+Negative word.
Affirmative: He is a good man.
Negative: He is not a bad man.
Affirmative: Rakib is an honest boy.
Negative: Rakib is not a dishonest boy.
Affirmative: This was an extra-ordinary ship.
Negative: This was not an ordinary ship.
RULE 09
Always
 Always will be replace with (never)
 Affirmative word will be negative.
Affirmative: He was always punctual.
Negative: He was never late.
Affirmative: I always tell truth.
Negative: I never tell lie

 UNIVERSAL TRUTH
 NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE
Affirmative: Health is wealth.
Negative: Isn’t health is wealth?
Affirmative: The sun sets in the west.
Negative: Doesn’t the sun set in the west?
Affirmative: The earth is round.
Negative: Is not the earth round?
Affirmative: Honesty is the best policy.
Negative: Is not honesty the best policy?
RULE 11
 SOMETIMES WILL BE REPLACE WITH ALWAYS

 Less…….than যুক্ত sentence কে Negative েররে হরে
Less এর জায়গায় not as বেরব এবং than এর জায়গায় as বেরব
RULE 13
 As....as যুক্ত positive degree কে Negative েররে হরে –
প্রথম as এর পররবরেে not less কশষ as এর পররবরেে than বরে।
 Affirmative: Robi and Rahat were as strong as Rakib.
Negative: Robi and Rahat were not less strong than Rakib.
 Affirmative: He is as good as you.
Negative: He is not less good than you.
 Affirmative: He is less ugly than you said.
Negative: He is not as ugly as you said.
 Affirmative: You are less good than he said.
Negative: You are not as good as he said.
 Affirmative: My friend sometimes visits me.
Negative: My friend does not always visit me.
