a. One way advances in technology have contributed to similarities between both cultural
landscapes is advances in infrastructure. The infrastructure in both of these cities is very
developed. And because of the advances in infrastructure, both of these cities have
many roads, buildings, highways, and etc. The second advance in technology that has
contributed to the similarities between both cultural landscapes is the advance in
communications. The communications in both cities are very high because of the
different companies there are. Therefore, because of the advances in communications, it
allows there to be many different companies to be working in the same area.
b. Increased internet access throughout the world contributes to cultural convergence
because of the amount of different cultures you can learn about as you are on the
internet. Cultural convergence is the theory that two cultures will be more and more alike
each other as their interactions increase. And the internet is available to everyone
throughout the world. Therefore, when the internet access is diffused more around the
world, more people can learn about other cultures which increases the interaction
leading to cultural convergence.
c. An ethnic food can become a widespread popular menu item in restaurants by people
from other ethnicities trying that food. If a different ethnic group tries another ethnic
group’s food and likes it, they will tell their friends about the food, and those friends will
tell their friends and so on. If people like this food, they will spread it across to other
people and ask them to try it. And if it spreads to enough people, it could maybe be
added to someone’s restaurant that has liked that certain type of meal. For example, if a
person is visiting China from America and tries an ethnic group's certain meal, and if
they like it, when they go back to America, they will spread the food to their friends, and
it will spread enough until someone adds it to their restaurant.
d. The process of acculturation affects these two cities greatly. There are many different
cultures throughout these cities. And these cultures can be expressed by restaurants,
companies, or etc. But even though there are many cultures in the cities, they still
maintain their main culture. For example, there are many arabic restaurants in New York
City, but the city still attains to English and has many American businesses.
