Khutbah friday charity

advertisement
Assalamualaikum dear brothers and sisters, the topic of today’s Khutbah is Sadaqah – Charity.
Allah, the Exalted, says in Surah Baqarah:
Allah commands us to spend for His sake, in the path of righteousness, from what He has granted us. And we must
do this before the Day of Resurrection, since on that Day, no one will be able to bargain on behalf of himself, or
ransom himself with any amount, even if it was the earth's fill of gold; nor will his friendship or relation to anyone
benefit him.
In this surah, Allah (SWT) also gives an example how rewarding it is to spend in His cause:
The Sunnah also mentions that the deeds are multiplied up to seven hundred folds. Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu
Hurayrah (RA) said that the Messenger of Allah (SAS) said, every good deed that the son of Adam performs will be
multiplied ten folds, to seven hundred folds, to many other folds, to as much as Allah wills.
Allah’s bounty has no limit; what He has or possesses never ends. He is Rich and free of needing anything from any
of His creatures, while all of His creatures stand in need of Him. Allah is far Richer from needing our charity. By
contrast, this is indeed His mercy that He gives us the opportunity to gain rewards and expiate our sins through the
charity.
546. `Adi bin Hatim (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Protect yourself
from Hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary: This Hadith tells us that one can win the pleasure of Allah even by spending a small quantity of
wealth in His way. We must bear in mind that it is the piety and the sincerity behind the charity and sacrifices that
reaches Allah (SWT).
Dear Muslims, the real wealth of man is that which he spends in Allah’s cause and the channels He approves. Only
this wealth will stand him in good stead on the Day of Resurrection. Otherwise, what apart from it, will be
personally used up by him in the worldly life, and what he leaves behind will fall to the lot of his heirs.
545. Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) asked, "Who of you loves
the wealth of his heir more than his own wealth?'' The Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah! There is none of
us but loves his own wealth more.'' He (PBUH) said, "His wealth is that which he has sent forward, but that which
he retains belongs to his heir.''
[Al-Bukhari].
548. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Everyday two
angels descend and one of them says, `O Allah! Compensate (more) to the person who gives (in charity)'; while the
other one says, `O Allah! Destroy the one who withholds (charity, etc)".
[Al-Bukhari ].
May Allah bestow us His blessings and save us from His wrath and punishment!.
90. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: There came a man to the Prophet (PBUH) and said, "O
Messenger of Allah, which charity is the most rewardable?'' He (PBUH) said, "That you should give charity (in a
state when you are) healthy and stingy and fear poverty, hoping to become rich (charity in such a state of health and
mind is the best). And you must not defer (charity to such a length) that you are about to die and would be saying:
'This is for so-and-so, and this for so-and-so.' Lo! It has already come into (the possession of) so-and-so".
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary: Charity in the real sense is that which a person gives when he is healthy. If a person gives charity
when he is facing death, it does not have much value before Allah.
Allah (SWT) mentions in surah Baqarah:
Dear muslims, fear of poverty is a BIG test from Shaitan, and BIG tests come with BIG rewards. May Allah grant us
the ability to overcome the fear of poverty and earn His mercy and blessings through charity. A word of warning:
Dear brothers and sisters in Islam,
1383. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When a man
dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is
beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).''
[Muslim].
Commentary: "His deeds come to an end'' means that he does not any longer receive the return and reward on his
actions. But there are three categories of actions on which he receives reward even after his death. First, Sadaqah
Jariyah such as building a mosque, or a hospital. As long as people will benefit from these, he will
receive a reward for them. Second, "knowledge which is beneficial'' means to impart knowledge to others or to
propagate knowledge by means of one's books. As long as this medium of teaching will continue and his books will
be studied and people will benefit from them, he will receive a reward for it. Third, virtuous descendants. Training
of children on the right lines is essential so that after a person's death they continue to pray for him. The prayer of
children in favour of parents is highly useful.
Allah, the Exalted, says:
"And enjoin Salat (the prayer) on your family, and be patient in offering them (i.e., the Salat).'' (20:132)
"O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell), whose fuel is men and
stones.'' (66:6)
376. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Seven are (the persons)
whom Allah will give Shade of His Thrown on the Day when there would be no shade other than His Throne's
Shade: A just ruler; a youth who grew up worshipping Allah; a man whose heart is attached to mosques; two
persons who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a man whom an
extremely beautiful woman seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying): `I fear Allah'; a man
who gives in charity and conceals it (to such an extent) that the left hand does not know what the right has
given; and a person who remembers Allah in solitude and his eyes well up".
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary: This Hadith mentions seven types of people whom Almighty Allah provides special protection or
His Throne's Shade.
1128. Zaid bin Thabit (May Allah be pleased with him)reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "O people! perform
your (voluntary) Salat (prayers) in your homes because the best Salat of a man is the one he performs at home,
except the obligatory Salat.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Commentary: This Hadith tells us that the Nawafil and Sunnah prayers should be performed at home, but all the
Fard constituents of every Salat are to be performed in the mosque (Masjid) in congregation.
Dear brothers and sisters, the importance of a mosque for any Islamic community cannot be emphasized enough.
Mosques are as old as Islam itself; they are the beating heart of our community and stand as a physical example of our
faith. The Prophet Muhammad (‫ )ﷺ‬himself helped in the construction of the first mosque in Medina, as it was part of
his will to define a place of worship for Muslims everywhere.
A mosque provides us with so much more than a simple house of worship: it is a precious sanctuary that provides a
place for individual enlightenment, education and moral guidance. Inside the hallowed walls of a blessed masjid is
where we teach our children about the Qur’an, where we come to honour and worship Allah (SWT) and where we can
come together for special occasions in the community, such as holidays, weddings and funerals.
As Muslims, we recognise the importance of these beautiful places of worship, but do you know what the benefits of
building a mosque are? The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Whoever builds a mosque, desiring thereby Allah’s pleasure, Allah
builds for him the like of it in paradise.” [Bukhari]
The reward for building a mosque is great and ongoing; for every prayer said inside a mosque you’ve helped build,
Allah (SWT) will reward you in Jannah. Building a mosque is a wonderful act of Sadaqah Jariyah! The reward for
building a mosque is unending, and as long as people are benefiting from the mosque, you will continue receiving
rewards from Allah (SWT) even in the Hereafter. As well as the rewards you can receive for building a mosque, the
community in which you’ve built the mosque will benefit as well! It also helps us spread our deen in this world and
brings not only ourselves closer to Allah (SWT) but everyone who enters the mosque as well.
Dear brothers and sisters, we all need to be mindful of our duties and responsibilities towards the mosque. May
Allah grant us the ability to build a mosque and pray our obligatory prayers in it. May Allah make our mosque the
heart of our community. Ameen.
