Dear ZeyuSHI,
Congratulations! I am pleased to notify you that your application for admission to graduate
study in the Electrical Engineering, PHD program at the University of Houston is
unconditionally approved as specified above. Please respond to the admissions offer as soon as
possible, to indicate whether you will attend by entering your decision in the application system.
As a new member of the UH Graduate community, you will undoubtedly have many questions
about what comes next. I would recommend that you start by familiarizing yourself with the
Graduate Catalog as well as the program’s website. Below, you will find details regarding the
financial support offer being made by the program. Please review this information carefully and
take it into account when responding to your offer of admission. If you have any questions
regarding the financial support offer or any other details of your admission please do not hesitate
to contact your admissions advisor, Nafeesa Lynn, at nlynn@central.uh.edu.
Financial Offer: This offer includes a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistantship beginning in
Fall 2021. Your faculty advisor will be Dr. Wei-Chuan Shih. The base pay will be $1650 per
month plus $150 for health insurance for a total of $1800 per month. This job offer is contingent
on the results of your completed criminal history investigation.
The current rates for Engineering Graduate students taking 9 hours are $4329-4536 per semester.
A Tuition Fellowship in the amount of approximately $4500 per semester for the Spring and Fall
semesters will also be credited towards your tuition and fees. You will be responsible for any
remaining tuition and fees, which will be charged at the in-state rate.
The terms of the Fellowship require you to register for 9 credit hours per semester and involve a
time commitment of approximately 20 hours per week devoted to assistance in your advisor’s
research program. Continuation of the Assistantship and the Tuition Fellowship is dependent
upon satisfactory performance of your duties and good progress toward your graduate degree.
Failing to maintain the minimum registration requirement will result in the termination of your
Fellowship and in-state tuition rates retroactive to the beginning of the most recent semester.
Note that the University of Houston reserves the right to change the provision of this agreement.
