A four day week Students struggle in school with staying attentive in class and putting all of their efforts into being proactive when in the classroom. We are spending long hours in school with only two days of break each week, which are usually prioritized by other activities outside of the classroom. I think the school week should be shortened to allow students to enjoy their teen years and the freedoms they have now. This change would benefit both the students and the teachers in many ways. This would allow students more time to complete assignments, get a mental health day, and have an extra day to spend on other activities of interest. We need our schools to send students back to school for four days a week because it would benefit the mental health and academic accomplishments of the students. The year 2021 has been kind of crazy so far. Many schools are back in person, but most are still online. The students have a choice to choose what they want to do and what would benefit them. Schools are staying open too much during this time of the pandemic. This raises the cost of keeping the schools open and keeping them running. If schools went to four days a week of school it would decrease the amount of money the schools uses drastically. The amount of students going back to school is very slim, only 15% of students are in person. The school should make it mandatory to have students come back to school even if it's for a couple days. Students only going for four days a week would increase the amount of students coming back to school. This would cause students to get better grades and they would actually learn the material that is being taught. Many of the students online only pass because of the access to the internet and using the internet to look at answers. Students have barely any time for themselves. Many students spend up to 35 hours in school each week, that's not even counting the amount of homework hours. An average of 10 hours of work a homework is pretty typical. These students with a large amount of homework don't usually get it all done, and they get stressed about not having it turned in. This caused students to be more stressed and a lot of this stress turned into depression, an average of 20% of students have experienced depression before adulthood. Many people think this is a terrible idea. Thinking that students wouldn’t learn as much in a compacted school year, "The students wouldn't have enough days in the school year." We would have considered the changes and it would take a long time and would be a long process. This might cause problems not just for the students but the teachers, "Will their pay go down?" The schools wouldn't be as beneficial as they could be if the kids are only going four days a week. In conculsion, both teachers and students would have many benefits going to school four days a week. Going only four days would decrease the stress on the students and would increase attentiveness in the classroom. The mental health of many students would rise because they get to engage in the classroom and see other peers. The school’s goal is to make sure that everyone is getting the best education possible and going back to school four days a week would make this possible. Going back to school for four days a week would benefit the students and also the teachers in many different ways. By Mason Schriner
