One of the goals of this diet is to change the balance between carbohydrates, fats, and protein in your
body, keeping your metabolism on an even keel resulting in a boost in energy level. The Atkins Diet also
helps stop your craving for energy boosters such as sugar and starchy foods and helps with curving
hunger. Notably with the Atkins diet focusing more on protein and less on carbohydrates it helps jump
start dieters metabolism.
What is your understanding of the term “Balanced diet” This term is often used in connection with
healthy eating and means a diet that has sufficient nutrients in the right quantitites for children and
adults. The “Eatwell plate” shows the five categories of nutrients. To be considered balanced all meals,
snacks and drinks taken throughout the day, when considered as a total package must povide children
with sufficient nutrients.
A good diet consists of consuming a full range of all the various nutrients needed for proper function of
the body and bodily systems. When someone consumes the correct nutrients in the correct proportions,
they are considered to have a “Balanced Diet”. However, when someone is not consuming the correct
nutrients or not consuming the correct amount of nutrients they are said to have a poor diet or
“malnutrition”.
The Food Standards Agency recommends that a healthy nutritious diet should contain foods from the
following groups each day – starchy foods, fruit and vegetables, protein-rich foods and dairy products. A
balanced diet should contain foods from these groups, all meals snacks and drinks taken throughout the
day must provide children with the sufficient nutrients to make up a balanced diet. When planning
meals for children, there are several things to take into consideration to ensure that meals contain
sufficient nutrients and calories.
Good nutrition is most important immediately prior to conception and during the first 12 weeks of
pregnancy (including the very early stages, when the woman is unaware she is pregnant). It is therefore
important for women to maintain a healthy diet throughout their childbearing years, and particularly if
they are planning to become pregnant.In addition to regular exercise, a healthy well balanced diet is
essential for good health. Life or rather the quality of life you have is dependent on having good health.
By modifying my diet in accordance with the Food Pyramid, I believe I can become healthier. The key is
to determine the different foods that I will need to incorporate into my diet and to find the quantity that
balances my caloric intake. For this I will need to do some research because I still need my diet to be
somewhat convenient as well as nutritionally balanced.
A diet that is well-balanced includes more fruit, vegetables, wholegrains and less fatty, salty or sugary
foods. This would mean avoiding processed meals from takeaways and eating less refined foods. Several
main reasons are commonly given for this. The first of this is a poor diet which has been noted to be a
major cause of obesity.
