I (Sergii Afanasiev) was teaching my daughter Viktoriya Afanasieva to drive on
Friday May 21, 2021 on my Honda Civic 2012. When we were in the town of Blackfalds
my daughter Viktoriya was at the Cottonwood Drive, we stopped at the C&E Trail
because Highway 2A to C&E Trail was reserved with a car and a truck behind with an
Rv since there was traffic ahead. At this moment we heard a honk from a car behind us.
From the honk my daughter Viktoriya got frightened and started driving again but I told
her to stop and not cross the C&E Trail. When my daughter looked in the rear view
mirror she saw that the driver of the Jeep showed her the middle finger. My daughter
was in shock and was offended by such action. Viktoriya knew that she had to stay and
not move anywhere because the road was reserved in front of us. When the road was
finally free we started driving to the traffic to turn left on Highway 2A. When I turned to
see who was the driver of the Jeep who honked and offended my daughter and showed
her the middle finger, she also showed me the middle finger. After that I opened my
door and went to her car. I was standing from her driver door 2 meters apart from her
window that was opened. Without realizing it I started speaking Russain asking her
questions why she started honking and offending my daughter and going against the
rules on the road. I was also asking her why she is going against the rules and why she
is offending me and my daughter by showing the finger. To me the driver of the Jeep
looked not adequate, she was very aggressive and continued the offence. She might
have been under drugs or alcohol, because a normal person wouldn't make such a fuss
over this situation. When I understood that I couldn't explain to her in English what I said
in Rusain, I left back to my car. After we started driving on Highway 2A we saw that the
same lady caught up to us and took a pic of our licence plate. We didn't want to have
any contact with that lady anymore so we left home. We didn't drive to the police
because my daughter was overwhelmed and offended. On Sunday when I had a talk
with my friends, I told them the same story and they encouraged me to write an
explanation letter to take to the police. I live at 37 Alderwood Close, Blackfalds and I
have a neighbor who is a police officer so I went and consulted with him about this
situation. He advised me that nothing would happen since I didn’t touch her nor her car.
While speaking with that police officer I had a neighbor Inessa Koljo who lives at 13
Alderwood Close, Blackfalds, and she helped me translate what the police men was
saying.
