Create Your Own Plant! 3D model or poster/drawing due Friday, June 12 We will create the WRITTEN descriptions in class Read ALL Directions carefully. I. Things to Know - Vocabulary A. Structural adaptation-how the plant is “built” or structured. For example, a cactus has spines, or a rose has brightly colored petals to attract bees. B. Behavioral adaptation-we usually discuss behavioral adaptations to describe the behavior of an animal, or “how it acts.” For example, bees do a special dance to let the other bees know where the food is. Since this is a creative project, your plant will also have a behavioral adaptation. C. Parts of the plant, and their functionsa. Stem b. Roots c. Petals d. Leaves e. Flower f. Sepal II. Assignment – You will create a drawing OR a 3-dimensional model of your plant. It must include the following: A. Dream up or create your own plant B. Draw and color a picture of your plant OR make a 3 dimensional model of the plant C. Label each part of your plant: (stem(s), root(s), leaf(ves), petal(s), flower(s), sepal(s) D. Describe your plant in words. Be as detailed as you can. You can write this as a paper, a PowerPoint, on a series of notecards, etc., but you should include these parts in your written description: 1) Appearance: What your plant looks like 2) Structural adaptation: What is its structural adaptation, and how does it help this plant survive? Be specific. 3) Behavioral adaptation: How does the plant behave to help it survive? This is where you will be very creative, as plants don’t generally have behavioral adaptations! 4) Habitat: Describe the climate. (Hot, cool, sunny, dark, dry, wet, etc.). Describe the other plants that would be found in the environment. Also, describe the animals that may live in the same habitat. 5) Name your plants: The name of your plant should have something to do with its adaptations. 6) Do not forget to include your full name on the front of your project! BE CREATIVE, BE THOUGHTFUL, ADD LOTS OF DETAIL, AND PLENTY OF COLOR. HAVE FUN!
