The operations problem that Dr. Barr is facing is they are experiencing changes in what customers are asking from the services their clinic was designed to offer. The progressive situation in specialized services, also the addition of other service such as grooming requires them a different setting. The clinic wasn’t offering packages but the customers were requesting for it. Also, the staffs along with Dr. Barr was not trained for these services. 2. How would you define the “service bundle” currently being offered? How is this different from the initial purpose of the clinic? The “service bundle” can be defined as dilemma that can turn into success of the business. The clinic opened by Dr. Barr was originally designed to offer examining and surgical services only, but the customers are now asking for a service bundle that includes grooming, examining, and minor surgical services. It was supposed to be a veterinary clinic not a pet care business. 3. Identify the high-contact and low-contact segments of the operation. How should each be managed? The low-contact segments are surgery, examining and grooming. . However, the grooming is being performed in high contact area because the groomers were being watched by the customers. Reception of the customers and customers waiting for their pets are include in high-contact segments. These high contact segments must be done in the time when the customer is present and in contact. 4. What should Dr. Barr have done differently to avoid the problems she is currently experiencing? What should Dr. Barr do now? Dr. Barr should have done research and plan thoroughly so that she have not experiencing this dilemma. She should have learned that the market in their area is huge and the needs in that area is pet care. If she is known about she may be ready for situation she is now facing. Dr. Barr must research and plan for strategies she will implement so that her clinic will be under control. She must revise her employees’ schedule and create inventory system. It is needed for the clinic to make some sort of inventory plan to keep track of what they need and don’t need.
