NSFAS PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION ALLOWANCE 2021
Dear Student,
Please take note of the following important information with regards to your NSFAS private
accommodation for 2021:
1. Maximum amount for 2021
The maximum amount for private accommodation is R34 400. This does not mean that all
qualifying students will receive the maximum amount. The amount payable will be your
rental amount as indicated on the lease agreement but not more than R34 400 for the year.
If you are only registered for one semester the maximum amount will be R17 200.
2. Qualifying criteria for NSFAS private accommodation allowance

An accommodation allowance is only available to students whose parent(s)/guardian(s)
reside outside Bloemfontein/Phuthaditjhaba outside of a 40 km radius.


NSFAS students only qualify for private accommodation allowance if the student is
staying in accredited accommodation or accommodation that is in the process to be
accredited (including Qwaqwa verified accommodation). Please contact Housing and
Residence Affairs should you require more information at the following link

Students placed in University residence will not receive private accommodation allowance
if they move to private accommodation thereafter.
3. Application for NSFAS Private Accommodation
NSFAS students who qualify for NSFAS private accommodation allowance can apply online on
their Self Service. Please follow the link for guidance on how to apply for NSFAS private
accommodation.

4. Incomplete application for Private Accommodation
Please note that no payment will be made while your application is still incomplete. For clarity
on the reason for your incomplete status please visit the following link:

Please complete your application and resubmit all documents again to ensure completeness
of the documents submitted. The system replaces all documents previously submitted with
the submission of subsequent documents and you therefore have to resubmit all documents.
5. Closing date for submission of Private accommodation applications
The closing date for private accommodation is 10 September 2021. Please note that no
extension will be given. Applications that is still incomplete by this date will not be
considered and no payment will be made.
6. Payment method
Private accommodation allowance payments will be paid into the student’s bank account via
Fundi. It is the your responsibility as the occupant of the accommodation to pay the landlord.
If your private accommodation application is approved by the 25th of a month you will receive
payment from your move-in date up to date during the first week of the following month.
