Aurat March We have been listening to a term constantly now-a-days that is AURAT MARCH. Here a common person like me and you think that what it really means and what it shows? So Aurat March is basically a presentation that is presented annually from 2018 in accordance with the International Women’s Day. It is basically a movement that demands the basic fundamental rights for women. Usually according to many articles it is not only a peaceful movement in the form of rallies but also an awareness act in order to make women realize what they should demand and what are the duties of others in community. In past 3-4 years the Aurat March different social activists leading a lot of ordinary women participate in this march. The females marched against the rape culture, patriarchal community, domestic violence, acid attacks, honor killing, sexual harassment, abuse, tortures, physical and mental harm etc. Moreover in a broader perspective it may lead towards better economic and legal rights to women. Now here we might be thinking that this concept of feminism is absolutely not portrayed as it should be. For that I being a writer wanted to know what other women of different privileged as well as unprivileged background think about it, I interviewed few of the women around me. Firstly I asked my maid who we usually call Aunty; as what she thinks about this Aurat March and she said “Beta! Men will always be men and we are not getting any benefit out of it as we are uneducated as well as under influenced.” Her statement made me realize that how patriarchal our society is. Secondly I asked my friend who is an independent student and her answer was “Someone has to make a change so let it be WOMEN”. This answer was a moment for me to think that this march and its perspective as both positive as well as negative impacts. Let’s just go through to both of them. So positivity first, The Aurat March can cause great difference in a male dominating society because it can create awareness. Before writing this article and I did research on it which made me realize that I lacked in understanding the term such as Feminism and Aurat March. There are so many uneducated backward areas where women don’t even know their basic human rights such as health facilities, education, dowry, domestic violence etc. I know many women who became an easy target of family disputes. Women from unprivileged backgrounds don’t even know about health issue regarding menstruation. From these examples we can easily assess how important it is to aware such women and men. These movements are not against men but they root for equality in rights availability. According to me Women and Men have different positions and it is elaborated more clearly in Quran and Hadees but the availability of rights equally without any gender discrimination is what the whole movement should be about. Now moving towards the discussion of negative impacts, you can recall a bit about some slogans such as “ Mera Jism Meri Marzi” , “Dupatty ka itna shok hai tw khud pehn lo” and many others like that has taken the context of the movement to another extreme where many critics and reactions came that the march created vulgarity. According to my opinion the “Concept” is positive but the “Ways” are negative. This peaceful march should be done in such a pride and respectful manner that the world may know what actually Muslim women are but unfortunately people don’t understand the seriousness behind an event. There is a very thin gap that can convert a good message into a bad massage. Concluding here, being a female as well as a writer I am totally in favor of the Aurat March concept but the organizers as well as institutions behind it must understand that such serious matter needs to be addressed with decency and in a proper peaceful way that can portray the elegance and decency of Female Gender.
