Surname 1 Student’s name Professor’s name Course Date UFO Sightings PART ONE: TOPIC QUESTION Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have always been a subject of intrigue among people. Interest UFOs began in 1947 and were thought to be aliens or extraterrestrial forms of life visiting. UFO believers argue that human beings are not the only life forms in the universe. Skeptics do not believe in UFOs, treating them as people's imagination or conspiracy theories. The sightings of UFOs increased, making the U.S. Airforce begin investigation on reports of the sightings. At first, people thought that the sighting was sophisticated Soviet aircraft. Other researchers suggested that the spacecrafts belonged to extraterrestrials from other worlds. There have been numerous unexplained sightings that have a similar trend that could prove that UFOs existed. However, there is no proof that they belong to extraterrestrials from other planets. PART TWO: REVIEW, SELECT AND DOCUMENT THE SOURCES Ailleris, Phillipe UFOs and Exogenous Intelligence Encounters UAP Observations Reporting Scheme (2011) https://www.files.ethz.ch/isn/126181/ESPI_Perspectives_43.pdf The search for extraterrestrial life has fascinated human beings for nearly half a century. The public and the scientists are all fascinated, with the scientists increasing their efforts to find other life forms on other planets. In as much as the probability of making contact with extraterrestrials is still a distant dream, the sightings of UFOs have continued to fuel controversy about their existence on earth and not on other planets. UFO sightings are Surname 2 some of the things that help prime the public on the likelihood of the existence of extraterrestrials and gain their support in space explorations, advance scientific knowledge in space exploration and make the public psychologically prepared to meet extraterrestrials. The article looks into the possibility of the existence of extraterrestrial life both inside and outside planet earth. Aillerris argues that surveys conducted on the public indicated that there is a widespread belief that intelligent extraterrestrial life exists. Even more surprisingly, people believe that these intelligent aliens are already visiting earth in the form of UFOs. 56% percent of adults believe that UFOs are real and that there are not just a product of people's imaginations. There has been a growing fascination among the public, who have even come up with the name ufology to describe the study of UFOs. Governments such as France have even developed websites to make documented evidence of UFOs available to the public. Even as interest in the existence of alien life forms, there is no evidence linking UFOs to them. Han, Go. "Aliens" and UFOs." https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Go-Han2/publication/342347097_Aliens_and_UFOs/links/5ef1b46592851ce9e7fcd378/Alien s-and-UFOs.pdf In this article, Han compiled UFO sightings around the world. A former employee of the United States of Defense asserted that it was his belief that there was compelling evidence that UFOs existed. Elizondo orchestrated the release of video evidence to back his belief that UFOs existed. In response to the videos, U.S. Navy commander David Fravor acknowledged having seen a UFO back in 2004 while on a training mission. He described it as something he had never seen before. According to Cooper, Bluthenthal, and Kean (2019), navy pilots had been witnessing UFOs almost on a daily basis between 2014 and 2015. The former Assistant Surname 3 Secretary of Defense Christopher Mellon asserts that UFOs exist. According to him, the question is not if they exist. It is why they there are on earth. The navy later admitted that the videos that were recorded involving aliens were actually true. The article provides an in-depth account of UFOs across the world. The author sought to establish the narrative that UFOs actually exist. In the beginning, Han questions the sighting, arguing that they could be a product of people's imaginations. It is disputed by the fact that some of the sightings involved children who drew similar things when asked to draw what they saw. According to him, children do not lie, and that explains the existence of UFOs. However, the reason for existence is shrouded in mystery as that has not been unraveled to date. There are people who believe that UFOs belong to extraterrestrial beings who are way more intelligent than human beings. Their mission on earth has not been established. Shostak, Seth. "Unidentified flying object". Encyclopedia Britannica, 18 Feb. 2020, https://www.britannica.com/topic/unidentified-flying-object. Accessed 6 April 2021. The article describes unidentified flying objects and gives a history of the sightings. It states that the subjects of UFOs, defined as any aerial objects or phenomenon that cannot be readily identified, began after the second world war. The initial thought by researchers on UFOs was that they were intelligent extraterrestrial life visiting earth. It goes further and gives the history of the sightings of UFOs. In 1947, Kenneth Arnold claimed to have seen nine objects flying at high speed in Washington. Arnold claimed that the objects were shaped like a crescent and were flying at high speeds, appearing as if they were saucers skipping on water. Newspaper reports came up with the term flying saucers to describe the saucer-shaped objects. The increased interest in UFOs prompted the U.S. Air force to begin investigations in a project, the christened Project Sign. The investigations might have been informed by the Surname 4 opinion that the UFOS were likely to be sophisticated Soviet Union aircraft. However, some researchers offered a contrary opinion, stating that UFOs belonged to extraterrestrials from other worlds. Project Sign was replaced by Project Grudge, followed by Project Blue Book. Between 1952 and 1969, Project Blue Book recorded more than 12,000 sightings. As the interest in UFOs grew among the American public, the Robertson Panel and the Condon Report were formed to ascertain the phenomenon of UFOs. The Robertson report established that UFOS posed a security threat, could be attributed to either astronomical or meteorologic phenomena, and that they did not belong to extraterrestrial beings. The Condon Report made the same conclusions as the Robertson report and that UFOs did not warrant any further investigations. The reports did not deter people from speculating about the existence of UFOs and their link to the aliens. STEP THREE: DEVELOP A RESEARCH QUESTION Is there a link between UFOs and the existence of extraterrestrial life? STEP FOUR: DIRECTLY QUOTE A PASSAGE INTEGRATED QUOTE Han (7) argues that the existence of so many cases where young children around the world have witnessed UFOs and aliens does not indicate that the findings are valid; they are merely unexplainable. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Go-Han2/publication/342347097_Aliens_and_UFOs/links/5ef1b46592851ce9e7fcd378/Aliens-andUFOs.pdf SEPARATE QUOTE Surname 5 The existence of verified UFO records and the accounts of individuals who claim to have witnessed UFOs presents a gap that complicates the belief that there could be something substantial behind the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or if the claim of UFO existence is merely a figment of people's imaginations (Han 3). https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Go-Han2/publication/342347097_Aliens_and_UFOs/links/5ef1b46592851ce9e7fcd378/Aliens-andUFOs.pdf Surname 6 Work cited Ailleris, Phillipe UFOs and Exogenous Intelligence Encounters UAP Observations Reporting Scheme (2011) https://www.files.ethz.ch/isn/126181/ESPI_Perspectives_43.pdfHan, Go.
