The recent SWx research in Korea have been made to follow the technical trends
represented by a few keywords, ‘big data’, ‘machine learning’,or ‘deep learning’. Though
the challenging attempt was made by SWx community, however, the output is likely to
be premature to be in SWx operation due to the lack of large sets of SWx data or the
absence of the Domain knowledge.

It has been developed since 2014, deriving the input parameter to ENLIL model, and it’s
on the way to update the algorithm based on the cone shape assumption, and at the
same time, to prepare the new solar observing satellite. The prediction of the arrival date
seems to be more accurate after update.
Space Environment Model Verification system
10 models running and verified using the observational data by satellite.
The model output variable is categorized as categorical, multi-categorical, probabilistic,
positional and continuous, which is from the simple detection to the continuous
parameter. Using about 20 metrics to verify the model performance.

What do we need in the future?
Summary and perspective
• The recent SWx operation and research are still
being very active even in quiet-release period by
media in Korea.
• The approach to SWx research by a number of
new technique is challenging, however, yet not
much promising to be implemented as the SWx
operation.
• Now, it is time to adopt the service-oriented
approach to SWx product switching from the
technology-oriented one to improve its marketfriendly nature and enhance the communication
for the successful PPP(Public Private Partnership).
