Abstract
Mosquito repellents help to prevent and control the outbreaks of mosquitoborne diseases such as dengue fever (Wikipedia, 2011). Many of the pest control
make chemical choices for getting rid of mosquitoes are extremely harmful for us.
Researchers found out that lemon grass can be use as an insect repellent
(Helmenstine 2011). One of the known contents of lemon grass is citronella.
Applying repellent with citronella oil ingredients can block the scents being sensed
by mosquitoes.The study is conducted to know the potential of the lemon grass as
a mosquito repellent cologne. The descriptive method is used in the study. It aims
to describe various problems in real life situations. The respondents for this study
is the selected Grade 12 ABM students of Laguna Senior High School. Due to the
large population of Grade 12 ABM with 277 students the researchers got fifty (50)
students. Ten (10) students will be chosen from each section and will perceive the
said product. The researchers use a primary data collection to have enough
information about the said study. Questionnaires will be given to the selected grade
12 ABM students of Laguna Senior High School. The objective of figure 1 is to
know Lemon Grass as organic mosquito repellent cologne as perceived by male
respondents in terms of price, appearance, and scent. It is measured on five point
likert scale having items like strongly Disagree, Disagree, Neutral (neither agree
nor disagree) Agree, and Strongly Agree. The figure 1 presents price of mosquito
repellent cologne . Of the selected 15 male students , 73%respondents agree or
strongly agree that 30 pesos is reasonable price for the product and only 11%
neither agree nor disagree and 16% disagree or strongly disagree. The figure 1.1
presents appearance of mosquito repellent cologne . Of the selected 15 male
students , 67%respondents agree or strongly agree that the packaging is
appealing to the eyes and only 20% neither agree nor disagree and 12% disagree
or strongly disagree. The figure 1.2presents scent of mosquito repellent cologne .
Of the selected 15 male students , 91%respondents agree or strongly agree that
the product's scent is relaxing and refreshing and 9% disagree about that. While
figure 2 presents female respondents. In terms of Price of mosquito repellent
cologne . Of the selected 35 female students , 91%respondents agree or strongly
agree that 30 pesos is reasonable price for the product and only 9% neither agree
nor disagree. When the appearance is considered, Figure 2.1 appearance of
mosquito repellent cologne 70%respondents agree or strongly agree that the
packaging is appealing to the eyes and only 27% neither agree nor disagree and
3% disagree or strongly disagree. In terms of scent 90%respondents agree or
strongly agree that the product's scent is relaxing and refreshing and 10% disagree
about that. By these results we are confident that our product will be patronized by
the consumers. This results shows that Lemonyy is feasible and can compete to
different businesses in the industry.

Chapter 1
Introduction
According to CNET(Computer Network), mosquitoes kill an average of 1
million people every year and account for 17% of the estimated global burden of
infectious diseases. Mosquitoes are more dangerous due to its capacity to transmit
viruses or other parasites that can cause devastating diseases. An example is
malaria alone, transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito, kills 400,000 people
(mainly children) and incapacitates another 200 million for days.
Lemon grass on the other hand, is one of the herbal plants that is proven to
repell mosquitoes. One of the known contents of lemon grass is citronella. Applying
repellent with citronella oil ingredients can block the scents being sensed by
mosquitoes. This makes it harder for mosquitoes to locate humans. Research has
shown that citronella helps to reduce mosquito landing around 40%. And creating
a useful and handy tool containing lemon grass can lessen and prevent the
diseases caused by mosquitoes is a big help for everyone in the community.
Background of the Study
Mosquito repellants are important for public health tools (Goddard, 2002).
Dengue in the Philippines has always been a national concern, especially during
the rainy season. From January 1 to August 3, 2019, the Department of Health
(DOH) has recorded 188,562 dengue cases—the highest in the last five years. To
date, the mosquito-borne viral disease has killed 807 people in 2019. Mosquito
repellents help to prevent and control the outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases
such as dengue fever (Wikipedia, 2011). Many of the pest control make chemical
choices for getting rid of mosquitoes are extremely harmful for us. Researchers
found out that lemon grass can be use as an insect repellent (Helmenstine, 2011).
According to an article of new tech bio, lemon grass (Cybopogon citrates)
is a popular and use for medicinal, food and insect repellent products. In the
Philippines it has a local name known as "tanglad". In a study Evaluation of Herbal
Essential oil against Mosquitoes by the Department of Plant Production
Technology and Faculty of Agricultural Technology in Bangkok Thailand affirmed
that lemon grass indeed contains organic repellents against mosquitoes.
The study is conducted to know the potential of the lemon grass as a
mosquito repellent cologne. Using a natural mosquito repellent have many
benefits. It is safe for the family and reduces the risk of allergic reaction. People all
over the world have come to rely on the potent insect repellent properties of lemon
grass and utilize it as a personal and area spray.
Statement of the Problem
The research aim to study the feasibility of lemon grass as organic mosquito
repellent cologne. Specifically, the research sought to answer the following specific
questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
a. Gender
b. Age
c. Health Condition
2. What is the mean level of organic mosquito repellent spray in terms of:
a. Price
b. Appearance
c. Scent
3. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and
the mean level of organic mosquito repellent spray in terms of price,
appearance, and scent?
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The technical study of the project is compose of product process, product
description, materials and equipment, plant location and plant layout. It discuss the
procedure on how to make lemon grass mosquito repellent cologne, what
ingredients and materials are needed and where is the location of the business.
The marketing study comprises general business condition, competitive
condition, demand, supply, target market, pricing strategy, product, promotion and
packaging. It talks about the condition of the product in the market. With the help
of the questionnaire we will know the result in the demand and supply. It will also
give us the idea if the product will achieve the target market.
The financial study shows the capitalization, total sales, total expenses,
income statement, cash flow and balance sheet. In this area, we will know if the
business will make it to the market and if it is profitable or not.
The management study shows the form of ownership of the business, their
job analysis and also their business policy.
The socio-economic study shows the contribution of the research to the
government and to the society. This area proves that the existence of the business
is not only for making profit in it's own but also for the welfare of providing for their
customers.

Scope and Limitation
The study only covers the students from Grade 12 ABM Laguna Senior High
School. The study was limited on the theory and details explained in this research.
Information beyond this scope was excluded in the search for truth.
Significance of the Study
The study will be beneficial to the following:
To the Customers- The customer will benefit the most because knowledge of
insect repellent will enable them to prevent possible diseases.
To the Students- This study will help the students to protect from acquiring
disease that insect can transmit.
To the Teachers- Teachers will have a product that will help them to repel the
mosquito and kill the larva in their room/class.
To the Farmers- This study help the farmers instead of buying expensive
Mosquito Repellent, lemon grass can be used as an alternative.
To the Community- The people in the community will have a product that will
help them to repel the mosquito and kill the larva in their houses.
To the Researchers- This study will help the researchers to realize that mosquito
repellent is important.
To the Future Researchers- This study will help the future researchers to serve
as the source of information for their future studies.
Definition of Terms

Dengue- Dengue is fast emerging pandemic-prone viral disease in many
parts of the world.

Feasibility- A feasibility study is an assessment of the practicality of a
proposed project or system. A feasibility study aims to objectively and
rationally uncover the strengths and weaknesses of an existing.

Lemon grass- Lemon grass a fragrant tropical grass which yields an oil that
smells of lemon.

Mosquito-borne diseases- Mosquito-borne diseases are those spread by
the bite of an infected mosquito.

Mosquito Repellent- A mosquito repellent is a substance designed to keep
away mosquitoes, thereby preventing them from biting humans and feeding
on human blood.

Repellent- A substance that inhibits or discourages particular insect or
other pests from being attracted to a living organism.
Chapter II
METHODOLOGY
This chapter shows and describe the methods that the researcher will use in
gathering information that are needed in the entire study. It describes the
respondents that will help the study to be in progress and it will also show the focus
of the research. This chapter includes the research design that will be use in the
study, the research locale in where the study will be conducted, chosen
respondents of the study and also it shows the procedure of source of data and
the method of collecting it.
Research Design
The descriptive method is used in this study. Descriptive method aims to describe
various problems in real life situations. The important characteristic of this method
is it relates to the fact that this can employ number of variables. The researchers
use this type of method to describe and determine how is lemon grass as mosquito
repellent in the Grade 12 ABM students of Laguna Senior High School.
Research Locale
The location that will perceive the product of this study will be at Laguna Senior
High School.
This study will cover and involve the Grade 12 ABM students with total population
of 277; and the sample will represent the school and will perceive the said product.
Respondent
The respondents for this study is the selected Grade 12 ABM students of Laguna
Senior High School.
Due to the large population of Grade 12 ABM with 277 students the researchers
got fifty (50) students. Ten (10) students will be chosen from each section and will
perceive the said product.
Sources and Method of Collecting Data
The researchers use a primary data collection to have enough information about
the said study. Primary data is collected by a researcher from first-hand sources
using survey type questionnaires. Those questionnaires will be given to the
selected grade 12 ABM students of Laguna Senior High School.
Chapter III
Technical Study
This study discusses the process of production and the activities of the business.
It states the general business condition and the process of making the product.
This chapter will provide a step by step procedure of the product. It also shows the
materials and equipment that is needed in the production. Plant layout, plant
location is also presented in this study. The product description and the workflow
of the process is also presented.
General Business Condition
Mosquitoes abound in tropical countries like the Philippines. They have been
pestering land vertebrates for millions of years. Most insecticides formulated to at
least reduce their number and to temporarily disable them, are either too expensive
or too harmful to both man and the environment.
This study was created with an environment-friendly, safe, effective and affordable
lemon grass mosquito repellant.
Safe and Eco friendly
Lemon grass mosquito repellent is not harmful for everyone, since its natural and
not combined with the synthetic or chemical.
Effective
Lemon grass is particularly good at keeping mosquito’s bite low, helps to reduce
the amount of dengue cases because it has a powerful smell that interferes with
them to locate their food sources.
And Affordable
It’s priced reasonably, It will serve good quality of product within the reach of our
budget.
Production Process
Lemon Grass Mosquito Repellent
Cologne Procedure
INGREDIENTS:

Step-by-step Procedure
1. Prepare the needed equipment and ingredients such as pressure cooker,
stainless pot with an integral strainer, curve pot cover, ice and lemon grass.
2. Put water inside the pressure cooker. The set up inside the pressure
container has strainer that prevents the lemon grass to touch the water.
3. Clear the space in the center of the strainer to set the receiving vessel.
4. Position the pot cover on the top in vertically. Make sure that the drip tip is
centered over the receiving vessel.
5. Fill the pot cover as much ice as it can hold.
6. Boil it up to 15-30 minutes. Get the extract of lemon grass in the receiving
vessel.
Workflow of the Process
 Create a mosquito repellent cologne concept.
 Gather all the needed ingredients.
 Proceed with the steam distillation process.
 Get the desired lemon grass extract.
 Let it cool.
 Add oil fragrance.
 Then put it in a container (spray bottle).
 Ready to display on the shop.
Product Description
Mosquito Repellent is a substance designed to keep away mosquitoes,

The plant layout is designed in supporting the smooth process of a business
(Lemon Grass Mosquito Repellent Cologne). There is a display area where the
finished product can easily see by the customers. There will be an area that shows
how to make the product and an area for the office. So, if you have farther
questions that you want to ask you can go to the office area.
Chapter IV
MARKETING STUDY
This chapter shows the marketing aspect of the business. It includes the
following: Description and Outlook of the Industry, Size of the Industry, Target
Market, Market Segmentation, Marketing and Sales Activities, Product Details,
Competition, Packaging, Marketing Strategy and also the Price of the product.
For the business to be successful, it should have a great marketing plan for
their product. Marketing strategy provides a business an edge over its competitors.
The business should meet the expectations of its consumers. It should provide the
wants and needs of the customers while listening to their opinions on how to
improve the product. That is the main objective of the recommended business.
Marketing aspect has a big impact in a feasibility study. It serves as the
basis of the business if they should pursue it or not. This chapter determines the
threats and opportunities that may arise in the business.
Description and outlook of the Industry
Lemon grass (Cybopogon citrates) is a popular and use for medicinal, food

We think that the demand for the lemon grass as a Mosquito Repellent Cologne
will increase because people will buy this because it will help them to prevent
dengue disease. We all know that mosquito is one of the top sources of diseases
and death of a lot of people. From that case, we developed our preventive solution
that is convenient and purely safe for all. And aside from its preventive
characteristic, Lemony also has a fragrant scent which can be used by any gender,
age and nationality.

Size of the Industry
According to the school admin of Laguna Senior High School, their total population was
estimated as 1,600 students. It includes the grade 11 and 12 STEM, ABM and HUMMS.
This data gives the researchers an opportunity to have a look at how large is the market.
Mosquito repellent is very useful nowadays, especially because the rate of dengue
outbreak is becoming larger.
Target Market
The lemony wants to distress the purchasing influence of most of the
Filipinos as it is offering an affordable price and addressing health and wellness
trends in our product offerings. At all ages is the target market of Lemony,
professional or not, male or female and people of different walk of life. One of our
target markets is the students in Grade 12 ABM Students in Laguna Senior High
School because they can influence the other students to consume and choose
Lemony as a mosquito repellent and most especially the people within a healthy
lifestyle. This confirm a big scope of market lemony will serve
Market Segmentation
The target market of our product, Lemony are for all ages. For the perfume
is organic and chemical-free, it is also safe to use for infants and older people.
Aside from that, we are also open to have potential buyers from any place for the
perfume is safe at any environment. And also from a wide range of customers, we
can improve and develop our product more from their preferences and feedbacks.

The table illustrates that there are 15 respondents coming from the male
category and 35 respondents coming from the female category with the total of 50
respondents. Table 1 shows that the gender of the respondents is composed of
30% male and 70% female with a total of 100%. This concludes that there are
greater number of female respondents than male respondents.

Marketing and Sales Activities
Mosquito repellant and a cologne in one. Safe, organic and budget friendly.
The main ingredient of the product is lemon grass. It is all natural and safe
mosquito repellant with a twist.
The study will be implemented in the next school year (2020-2021).
The marketing activities should be followed:
 1st week- Opening and Distribution of Flyers
-Advertisement via social media
-Buy 1 get 1 free of Lemony for the first 20 customers only.
 4th week- Claims
-Posting feedback of the user of Lemony
-Posting picture of the consumers in the Facebook page
 3rd month- Loyalty card
-Buy worth of 500 in one purchase at the store then you will get a loyalty
card.
-Every purchase of the product they will get points on their card that .
they can also use to avail Lemony.
 4th month- Video Testimony
- Advertisement about the testimony of the avid users of the Lemony
 5th month- Enlarging the market
-The business or the product will be open for a reseller.

lessen the contact of mosquitos from its user. We all know that mosquito is one of
the top sources of diseases and death of a lot of people. From that case, we

For Lemony is a liquid product, its packaging really gives out an important
role to keep the perfumed compact and easy to use.

can fit in purses or bags. And giving the perfume a secured
and spill proof container.
Marketing Strategy
The key market players have consistently engaged themselves into
implementing effective marketing strategies aimed towards promoting sales of
various mosquito repellents. When it comes to crafting out creative marketing
ideas that are specific to mosquito repellent businesses, one of the strategies to
adopt is to ensure that we give out free mosquito repellents to customers once in
a while especially during our marketing. This will enable potential customers have
a taste/feel of our product and that may influence their decision to start purchasing
and making use of our mosquito repellents. We can also use internet to promote
our product to netizens through advertising. The impact of these innovative
marketing strategies would continue to propel the demand of mosquito repellents
in future.
Price
The pricing of each mosquito repellent cologne is based from the survey
questionnaire gathered by the researchers. The researchers founded survey
questionnaire with an option of prices.
Each mosquito repellent cost only 30 pesos based on the research result
that we conduct, but it will adjust based on the economic growth.
The prices of the mosquito repellent will be dependent on how the market price of
the main product is. Any change of the price of the product will be taken into
consideration to the factor that measures the consumer capability to purchase the
product.
The Product
Mosquito Repellent Cologne made from Lemongrass is safe, effective, with no added chemicals.
It will make us and our room smell deliciously of Lemongrass and yet repels Mosquitoes (and
other insects). It is useful for transforming unwanted smells into sweet and fresh air.


breathe freely, freshly and safely.


The permit and requirements that we get for putting up the business are:
Barangay Permit/Clearance- It serves as an assurance that the business
adheres to the standards of the Barangay. It is required under the Local
Government Code.
Mayor’s Permit- It is for the business to operate at the chosen place especially in
Santa Cruz.
Sanitary Permit- It is required to get this permit for the business to operate fully.
To make sure that the businesses observe the standard of The Sanitary Code of
the Philippines.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)- The law does not require FDA approval
before the product go on the market, but they must be safe for consumers when
they are used according to labeled directions, or as people customarily use them.
In our Mosquito Repellent the oil fragrance ingredients in cologne must
meet the same requirement for safety purposes
Companies and individuals who manufacture cologne have a legal
responsibility for ensuring that their products are safe and properly labeled.
DTI (Department of Trade and Industry)- It is for registering the name of the
business.
SEC(Security Exchange Commission)-Registering your business with SEC is
mandatory not only to legitimize its juridical entity but also to enable it to legally
engage in business, issue receipts, trade financial assets, and be entitled to certain
rights under the country’s corporate and investment laws.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
To the parents, teens, and children or the community overall, the
researchers recommend regular use to prevent illnesses brought by mosquitoes.
It is advisable to spray on the legs or below the knee to maximize its effect.
To the future researcher it is recommended to use this study as a tool in
developing products that can help the people to lessen their exposure to
mosquitoes and improve the product just like making its longevity higher.
Conclusion
Based on the research and the study that we conducted, we therefore
conclude that our business is feasible and can compete in the other businesses in
the industry.
