Thematic Chaser essay The title of the story is “The Chaser”, by John Collier; the story of Alan, a young boy who falls in love with a stranger woman but unfortunately doesn't feel the same towards him which desperately leads the boy to find a way so she can love him the way no one does. The thematic statements of this story are “love” and “change” because they are the most important themes in the story, starting with “change”. Change: is one of the most persistent themes in the story, Alan consults the unnamed potion maker because he wants to change his current situation because he is in love with a woman named Diana. This woman pays no attention and wants nothing to do with Alan which makes him buy a potion that will change Diana’s feelings by making her fall crazy in love with him. The second theme of this thematic statement is “love”; something that stands out in the story is that the storyline is very similar to the usual storyline you would see in a fairytale story. The only difference this story has from a fairytale story is that this kind of love is made up and fake and it did not end up in a happily ever after because Alan figured out the hard way that love cannot be forced. In conclusion, if a reader is looking for drama, twisted fairytale and suspense “The Chaser” is a good story to read. To summarize the story, Alan wants a girl to fall in love with him and he will do anything for it, in this case he buys a potion that he can use it so the girl can fall in love with him. The oldman that sold the potion to Alan, he knew what was going to happen so that is why he create a new potion that he knew Alan was going to go back to buy that potion so he can make everything go back to normal because the first potion was a challenge for Alan because if he really love that girl he were go back and buy the life potion to make everything to come back to the normality. The topic of this story is that you can't chase love, it just happens; this topic matters because it teaches us that love can’t be bought or forced and how we need to take our time for love because one day the love will appear to us and will change our lives and make us happy. In conclusion I can say that everyone needs to give this story an opportunity and that we need to give an opportunity to love too but we need to always take our time for that to happen.
