Arctic and Fennec Fox Anika Garg Answer: An arctic fox lives in the Arctic region while a fennec foxes live in the sandy Sahara deserts. The physical structure of both the animals are different and are adapted accordingly. The arctic fox has short legs, ears and nose while also has thick fur which all helps it to be able to survive in cold climates. Because of all those things being short they are less exposed to the cold. The thick fur on helps them to keep warm. Whereas the fennec fox has bat like ears which help them radiate their body heat – that helps them keep cool as well as that they have incredible hearing. Instead of thick fur they have long and thick hair that helps them reduce the amount of heat that they give off at night while protects them too during the day from the sun. When the arctic fox is sleeping and its cold it tends to curl itself into a small ball which protects them from the cold. The arctic fox is a sharp white colour which helps them camouflage into the snowy areas they live in. The fennec fox is a pale yellow/orange colour which helps them blend in with the sand around them along with that it helps reflect during the day and that helps them keep cool. As a fennec fox lives in the desert its important for them to preserve water thus its kidneys are adapted to restrict the amount of water loss which takes place. It has formed these body system adaptations so that it can survive in the type of place it lives in.
