9.6 Parallel circuits Page No: 190 & 191 Series and parallel circuits • In a series circuit there is only one loop. • In a parallel circuit there is more than one loop. The cell or battery pushes the current around each loop. Parallel circuit • Each bulb is connected directly to the battery. It works independently. Each bulb can be turned on or off independently. • The different loops of the circuit are sometimes called branches. Parallel circuits are sometimes called branching circuits. • In a series circuit if one lamp breaks then all the lamps go off. In a parallel circuit if one lamp breaks then the other lamps will still work. Current in parallel circuits • In a parallel circuit the the sum of the currents through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source. Current in A1 = Current in A4 = Current in A2 + Current in A3 Assignment • Solve questions on textbook page no: 191. • Solve practice book page no: 88.
