Moving through time Zadar is an amazing city with an even more amazing history. And it also happens to be the birthplace of Sasa Sevo, founder of Skochypstiks. Parkour is about community, strength and adaptation. Something Skochypstiks have made abundantly clear that they breathe through their immense engagement with the community. Zadar have been through many wars and been under more governments than many countries in Europe. France, Italy, Roman Empire, Yugoslavia to name a few. But they’ve always rebuilt. They built on the foundation laid before them and made something new. That’s what makes it beautiful. That even though there’s been different cultures and religions in this city they still found the spirit to accept it and build onto what was already there. Some of these buildings date back as far as before the Roman Empire at the 7th and 8th century. With a lot of reconstruction going on as the city as gone from catholic to orthodox and all the same they have reused the old structures. There’s been a beautiful co-existance of many different cultures over hundreds, even thousands of years. What I find beautiful with these images is that they combine the amazing spirit of parkour – of adaptation, strength and community, they combine the spirit of Zadar and the people that no matter what war or monstrosity came at them, their community found the strength to adapt and rebuild. The place and the images conjoin very well to promote the amazing brand that is Skochypstiks. The sad part about this is how after the fall of Yugoslavia, the old ideas of community, co-existence and somehow fell apart and there’s a lot of segregation between the different cultures in the former state. I wish people could look back further into the history and see how beautiful it’s all been – with co-existence with all cultures and people for hundreds of years.
