SOUTH ASIAN COUNTRY PROJECT
Social Studies Project 2 – 100 Points Total
Project #2: For this project, you will be using Power Point to create a presentation about
a South Asian nation. To do this, you will research key information about your country,
pick the most important information and put that into a Power Point to present to the
class. Keep this packet to help guide your research and planning!
Task I: Research The Country
After choosing a country in class with Mr. Shane, begin researching. Use the internet to
find out key information about your country. Answer the following questions:
1. What is the name of your country? Where is it located?
2. Describe the major physical features located in your country. For example: The Ganges
in India or the Himalayas and Mt. Everest in Nepal .
3. Describe the population of your country: How many people live in your country? What
major cities are in your country? Do most people live in cities or in the countryside? Describe the
major cities.
4. Describe the natural resources of your country: What natural resources can be found in
the country? Water, Natural Gas, Copper, etc. How do they use these resources? Do they have any
sources of renewable energy?
5. What other interesting facts did you discover in your research? What is their
culture like? What foods do they eat? What is their religion? What languages do they
speak? Any interesting holidays or rituals (like Aarti in India)?
Task II: Make a PowerPoint
Prepare a PowerPoint about your country. Be creative! Explore the tools for changing the
theme and layout of each slide. Make sure to use pictures to make it interesting! Each slide
should contain: a Title, a Graphic (picture, map, or chart), and Text (simple, clear
information about the topic). PowerPoints must be between 6 and 10 slides long. For
example:
Slide 1: Introduce your Country
Slide 2/3: Tell about the Major Physical Features
Slide 4/5: Tell about the Population + Major Cities
Slide 6: Describe the Natural Resources
Slide 7/8: Tells other Interesting Facts about your country.
Slide 9: Conclusion – wrap up your presentation by summarizing information you have
presented.
Task III: The Presentation
Bring your PowerPoint on a USB to Mr. Shane on the first day back from break. The
Presentation schedule will be drawn on this day, so make sure you are ready to present!
1) Using the PowerPoint as reference, explain each slide to the class.
2) Avoid READING directly from each slide. The presentation should contain MORE
information than the slides, because you should be adding to what is shown in the Title,
Picture and Text.
3) Presentations will be evaluated by your peers! For each presenter, the class will
complete the following survey. The surveys will be collected and will contribute to your
overall score on the project.
