“Curriculum Project” Grading Explanations
This assignment is delivered in two parts. Please ensure you carefully read the
assignment expectations for both parts of the assignment.
For this assignment, you will provide a curriculum framework or curriculum map for a
unit of your choice. Please DO NOT create this unit – rather, use a commercially
prepared unit, a unit from Engage NY or another website, or a unit from a colleague.
Please ensure you appropriately cite where you got this unit, framework or
curriculum map from.
Due Class 4: Curriculum Project – Part 1 (25 points)
Please choose (and provide) a curriculum framework or curriculum map for a unit of your
choice. Based upon the SIOP framework, please choose five areas of the framework to
incorporate into the teaching of this unit to support the needs of the following types of
students in your classroom:



A Student with general Learning Disabilities
An English Language Learner
A Reluctant Learner
Along with your explanations regarding the five areas you would incorporate, please also
create originals of the following to best meet your students’ needs:
A webquest activity with 5-7 different websites to visit
An adapted commercially prepared product
Please also include a brief rationale or justification explaining how each of SIOP
areas/activities you chose to incorporate best meet the individual needs of the identified
students in your classroom.

Due Class 8: Curriculum Project – Part 2 (25 points)
Based upon the curriculum framework or curriculum map you used for Part 1 of your
project, please embed into this unit your recommendations for 8-10 modifications that
incorporate a range of classroom-related products to accommodate the diverse needs of
a heterogeneous group of students.
Included in your classroom is an English Language Learner, reluctant learners, a student
with a general learning disability, and please choose two (2) more of the following
students to support:




A Student with Autism
A Student with a Behavior Disorder
A Student with a Sensory Impairment (Visual or Hearing Impairment)
A Student with a Cognitive or Orthopedic Impairment
(You should be thinking about the diverse needs of five specific types of learners,
including those who are typical and above-average learners)
Please supplement Part 1 of your unit with at least four samples of the 8-10
modifications you recommend, including a sample of each of the following products:

An adapted book or excerpt of text

A mathematics worksheet, product, or assignment
Please also include a brief rationale or justification explaining the distinct student needs
or learner characteristics each of your adaptations will support.
