Introduction to dressing wood.
1. Define the following terms.
A. Stock:​ another name for wood or lumber dressed or rough
B. True:​ a piece of stock that has been completely dressed
C. Width: ​the distance between the edges of a workpiece
across the grain
D. Length: ​the distance between the two opposite edges of a
piece between a workpiece measured with the grain
E. Corner: a ​place where 2 or 3 surfaces meet
F. Thickness: ​the distance between the two faces of a
workpiece
G.Face: ​the larger broad surface of a workpiece
H. Edge: ​the narrowest surface of a workpiece
I. End: ​The two surfaces that are the limits of a board’s length.
2.Measurements are always given in what order?
THICKNESS x WIDTH x LENGTH
3. A board about to be dressed should be at least how long
in length? ​12 inches
4. Why should the board be a certain length? ​Because it’s not
the finished length and you need enough scrap wood to be cut off
by the machines
