Introduction and Values Integration There are things in life that happen unprecedentedly. People ask questions and find solutions to life’s challenges and uncertainties not only for themselves but for the benefits of others. This reminds us of the value of social holiness that makes us aware of others, compassion, and proactive to the needs of our neighbors and findings answers to life’s questions to make the world a better place not only for ourselves but for everyone. Research is an integral part of the teaching-learning process. It is known as the process of developing new knowledge, testing knowledge, and applying knowledge. Research is a scientific process of investigating solutions to identified problems to improve one’s life. It plays an indispensable role in nation-building, educational reforms, and improving human lives. Research enables us to transcend and helps us to make sense of how and why a situation exists. This unit helps you to understand the beauty and power of research in education and our lives. It presents the definition of research, its uses and functions in development, its process, and an overview of different types of research and research methods. Body This part of the module comprises of the three essential parts. First is the "READ" part that requires you to ready critically the provided reading materials. Second is the "REFLECT" part that enables you to make sense on what you have read and learned. The last part is the "RESPOND" part that requires you to apply what you have learned in the learning process. Read… For module 2, I want you to read the uploaded Reading Material 1 by Fely P. David, pages 3-16. (See the uploaded file) The following are the guide questions that you may answer during the reading process: Content Questions: What is research? What are the different types of research? What are the different steps in the research process? Unit Questions: How research plays a significant role in development? How can research be used in improving the quality of life of people? How would you differentiate the general types of research from each other? Essential Questions: How do we make sense of the world? Why our situations exist? David discussed the definition of research as a systematic process of gathering and analyzing data to find an answer to a question or test an existing theory. People have a lot of questions in mind and some are trying to find answers to them. However, finding answers to any problem or question that is not systematically made cannot be considered “research”. She also talked about the value of research to various fields and disciplines and its powerful contribution to improving the quality of life. Part of her discussion is the role of research in the development where the primary goal of any innovation is to make the life of human beings better. It was also tackled the general types of research, such as descriptive, explanatory, and experimental research. Other important concepts are presented, like the research methods and other types of research. Lastly, it was discussed the process of research work regardless of type or method. Research starts with problem identification, formulating a hypothesis, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting and drawing conclusions, and reporting results. Learning Output #2 Individual Task (Due on February 7, 2021) Make a two-paragraph reflective essay. Please be guided with the given unit and essential questions in writing your essay. Share your response on the discussion forum and discuss your answer with your classmates. REFLECT Unit Questions: How research plays a significant role in development? How can research be used in improving the quality of life of people? How would you differentiate the general types of research from each other? Essential Questions: How do we make sense of the world? Why our situations exist? Learning Output #3 Individual Task (Due on February 14, 2021) Listed below are research questions. What type of research can best answer each? Justify your answer. Please upload your output in pdf format. 1. What do students think are the least popular courses in the high school curriculum and why? 2. What is sexual harassment of high school boys and girls? 3. Ms. Dela Cruz is a teacher at Maligaya College teaching Mathematics. From her 10 years of teaching mathematics, she became curious if the Basic Calculus grade of a basic education graduate under the K-12 curriculum under the STEM strand has something to do with their skills in general mathematics. In her class, she asked her students their final grade in Basic Calculus. At the end of the semester, she correlates the Basic Calculus grade of her students to their final grades in General Mathematics. What type of research does she employ? Explain your answer. ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________
