English • refer to a job or employment • refer to the part of the day devoted to an occupation or undertaking • refer to a task or activity needed to be accomplished • is an abstract idea related to energy • it is accompanied by a change in energy • when it is done it loses energy and the object gains energy • Work is done only when a force moves an object. • When you push, lift, or throw an object, you are doing work. • A force acting through a distance is work. • Work is not done every time a force is applied. • A force can be applied on an object without work being done on the object. (wall example). • Another important requirement for work to be done is that the distance the object moves must be in the same direction as the force applied to the object. (groceries example) • The amount of work done in moving an object is equal to the Work=Force x distance force applied to the object times the distance through which the force is exerted: • Unit of work is measured in joule (J).
