What comes to your mind when you
hear the word
?
English
• refer to a job or
employment
• refer to the part of the
day devoted to an
occupation or
undertaking
• refer to a task or
activity needed to be
accomplished
• is an abstract idea
related to energy
• it is accompanied by a
change in energy
• when it is done it loses
energy and the object
gains energy
• Work is done only
when a force moves an
object.
• When you push, lift, or
throw an object, you
are doing work.
• A force acting
through a distance
is work.
• Work is not done
every time a force is
applied.
• A force can be
applied on an object
without work being
done on the object.
(wall example).
• Another important
requirement for work
to be done is that the
distance the object
moves must be in the
same direction as the
force applied to the
object. (groceries
example)
• The amount of work
done in moving an
object is equal to the
Work=Force x distance force applied to the
object times the distance
through which the force
is exerted:
• Unit of work is
measured in joule (J).
