ABOUT THE MISSING WORK TEMPLATES After just a few weeks of hybrid teaching (planning, instructing, and grading for in-person AND remote learners), I found myself totally overwhelmed by the difficult and chaotic task of keeping track of my students’ assignments. Prior to 2020, my fool-proof method had been to simply jot down student numbers and the assignment that they were missing on a sticky note. This year, however, I realized that I desperately needed a more organized method, and that’s when this Missing Work Template was created. With this template, you can see AT A GLANCE which students are missing which assignments, and color-coding helps you keep track of those important but easilyforgotten details! Remember that everything is completely editable. These are just FREE templates to help you get started tracking your students’ missing work. Edit the color-coding key to fit your needs d d Use the first two rows to keep track of dates and your students’ assignments ABOUT THE MISSING WORK TEMPLATES My students are assigned numbers at the beginning of the year for organizational purposes, which is why you see numbers next to their names. If you need to add students, right-click on any student name and select “Insert row”. This will add a row above. If you need to remove students, rightclick on any student name and select “Delete row”. Feel free to change the overall color scheme by clicking the “Format” tab and selecting “Alternating colors”. d A View the different templates by clicking on the Template tabs at the bottom of the sheet. d Color scheme options will appear on the right, and you can customize as needed. ABOUT THE MISSING WORK TEMPLATES If you plan to use color coding as you track your students’ assignments, I do recommend selecting a pre-made color scheme (the previous page explains how to do this). When you choose a pre-made color scheme, those colors become the default. This is helpful when you want to quickly and easily remove anything that you’ve color coded. As you can see in the template below, I have many different examples of color coding. Let’s say that my students are all caught up and I want to remove those colors. I can simply select any or all of the checkboxes that I want to reset, click the fill icon at the top and select “Reset”. This removes the added color coding and resets your template to the default, or your chosen color scheme. A A A TIP: Use the spacebar to quickly and easily check or uncheck boxes! ABOUT THE MISSING WORK TEMPLATES Depending on your teaching schedule, you may need more or fewer columns for listing daily assignments. A A A A A A You can add an extra column under any date by right-clicking on one of the existing assignment spaces. From the menu, select “Insert column”. New column A A Then do the same for the new space added to the existing date Once your column has been created, highlight the rows within that column and merge the cells together by clicking on the merge icon. ABOUT THE MISSING WORK TEMPLATES Depending on your teaching schedule, you may need more or fewer columns for listing daily assignments. A A A A A You can delete a column under any date by right-clicking on one of the existing assignment spaces. From the menu, select “Delete column”. Don’t delete Don’t delete Don’t delete Don’t delete Don’t delete IMPORTANT: If you delete the left column under any of the dates, the text in the date bar will disappear. For this reason, I recommend you delete either of the two middle columns or the column on the right under each date instead. The columns that you should keep intact are labeled below MISSING WORK TEMPLATE 1 Template 1 is designed for use with a single class. Don’t forget that you can edit the color-coding key to fit your needs! For example, you may want to add a color for assignments that still need to be graded. Alternately, I will sometimes color code my students’ names instead of the checkmarks under the assignments. This helps me clearly see which students need my attention. MISSING WORK TEMPLATE 2 Template 2 is designed for use with two or more classes in which DIFFERENT assignments are given. This template has been pre-made with 8 classes. If you are tracking fewer than 8 classes, simply highlight all of the classes/rows you won’t need, right-click, and select “Delete rows”. d Don’t forget to name your classes! MISSING WORK TEMPLATE 3 Template 3 is designed for use with two or more classes in which the SAME assignments are given. This template has been pre-made with 8 classes. If you are tracking fewer than 8 classes, simply highlight all of the classes/rows you won’t need, right-click, and select “Delete rows”. Don’t forget to name your classes! A d In this template, as you scroll, your dates & assignment bar will stay visible. Please respect my work and DO NOT share this resource with others. I am making it free in the hopes of saving teachers like you the time and effort it would take to create your own Missing Work document from scratch. I am happy to support your teacher-friends and colleagues, but please send them to my TPT store to download this resource for themselves J thank you! LOOKING FOR MORE ELA RESOURCES?
