REAL NUMBER SYSTEM MATH PROJECT DUE DATE _______________________ Name ____________________________________________ Period ___________ Directions – Create a mental organizer to visually represent the differences between rational and irrational numbers. Steps – 1. Create a mental organizer for the real number system. Your design should have two main parts: rational numbers and irrational numbers. Choose a design that shows how rational numbers are divided into four subsets, and the irrational numbers are part of the REAL numbers system but “different”. Can your design represent irrational numbers as a play on the word “irrational”? Example Ideas Idea 1: Great Pyramid at Giza (3 burial chambers and Grand Gallery) and Aliens (irrational) Idea 2: Pizza layers (Crust, sauce, cheese, toppings) and Drink with “crazy” straw (irrational) Idea 3: Tree trunk layers (bark, cambium, sapwood, heartwood, pith) and chainsaw (irrational) 2. Clearly label each set of the Real number system including The REAL NUMBERs. For rational numbers, provide 5 numerical examples for each subset {Natural, Whole, Integers, Rational}. For irrational numbers, provide 5 examples as well. 3. Include a large, clearly marked number line with 10 points for the following real numbers: Natural Number Whole Number Integers *Positive *Negative Rational Numbers *simple fractions *terminating decimals *repeating decimals *a perfect square root Irrational Numbers *pi *imperfect square roots 4. Include 5 math problems; One from each number set. Use an equal sign, show your work and circle the answer. 5. Be neat, use a ruler and use color to make your project creative, and organized. Student’s work was very neat, legible and colorful. Evidence of effort and time. 6. 2 points for include your name, period and the rubric on your final project.
