The idea of numbers is very important in our daily life. In ancient times, people used things to count. For
example below:

Later on, they invented symbols to represent numbers. These symbols are called numerals. In
history, we know that man has developed many numeral systems.
Some interesting ways of writing of writing numerals used by different people are shown as
follows:
CHINESE NUMBER SYSTEM
The counting rods were used by the ancient Chinese before the
invention of abacus. The way a number was represented by counting
rods was called the rod numeral system.
EGYPTIAN NUMBER SYSTEM
About 5,000 years ago, the Egyptians used hieroglyphics
or picture symbols along with tally marks to represent
numbers.

ROMAN NUMBER SYSTEM
The Roman numeral system, developed between 500 B.C. and
100 A.D., also used grouping, addition, and symbols.
