TRANSMISSION FLUIDS—REVISED FOR THE AT SERIES, MT SERIES, HT SERIES, AND
3000 AND 4000 PRODUCT FAMILIES
, Allison Transmission will no longer recommend TES 228 (C4) oils in any Allison
commercial On-Highway transmission including, but not limited to, the AT Series, MT Series, HT Series, and
3000 and 4000 Product Families.
There are two primary reasons for this change:

C4 oils include many engine oils that contain additives and base oils that differ significantly in physical and
chemical properties from automatic transmission fluids.
Performance testing has shown that many C4 oils are prone to low mileage shear and/or oxidation in severe
duty environments.
Customers may continue to use TES 295, TES 389, or DEXRON®-VI automatic transmission fluids.
SIL 10-TR-99, Rev. F is being revised to remove the TES 228 (C4) oil from the approved transmission fluid list.
Please note that Off-Highway products and applications will not be affected by this change. Off-Highway
customers may continue to use TES 228 (C4) oils for Hauling and Oil Field applications.
