Lab Report

Section:
Objectives:


To understand the concept of projectile motion.
To learn that the time of flight of a horizontal projectile is independent of its initial
speed.
Background information:
Projectile motion is a form of motion experienced by an object or particle that is projected
near the Earth's surface and moves along a curved path under the action of gravity only.
This curved path was shown by Galileo to be a parabola, but may also be a line in the
special case when it is thrown directly upwards.
Procedure:
1) Open the link below:
https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/projectile-motion/latest/projectile-motion_en.html
2) click on the “LAB” icon.
3) Set the height at 20 m.
4) Adjust the angle of the launcher θ at zero degree.
5) Set the velocity of the launcher at 10 m/s and fire the ball then observe what happens to
the time of flight at the point where the ball hits the ground.
6) Repeat step 5 with different velocities (20-30-40).
7) record your observations on a piece of paper.
Questions:
1. What changes would occur to the time of the flight if air resistance was neglected?
2. What is the velocity of the projectile at the highest point?
3. If air resistance were to be neglected, what changes would occur to the range of the
projectile?
4. Conclusion:
